Ice Cream Social and Tusker House Schoolroom
Has anyone done either of these? We are doing them in May and I am looking for some input. I have read both good and bad things about the Ice Cream Social.

Jammers, welcome to Disneycentral!
The Ice Cream Social is held daily at the Garden Grill in the Land pavillion of EPCOT. You can make PS for either 3:00 PM or 3:30 PM, and you can call as early as 120 days in advance. The cost is $6.75 plus tax per person, regardless of age. You are seated in the rotating restaurant, served giant sundaes and meet characters. I have also heard both positive and negative. While it has the promise of being a good deal and a fun time, there are often few characters. I understand that the social often has few visiters, and so they don't schedule characters for the full time period. On the other hand, the Tusker House School Room is something I wanted to do during our last trip, and was unable. I have heard that it is fantastic, a not miss. You are seated in a large room seperate from the Tusker House diners, and are served authentic African food in family style. You sit at tables of 8, so you may be paired with another family. There is entertainment, which I understand is wonderful. You are served Salad, bowls of greens with ham, corn, black-eyed peas and macaroni and cheese. This is followed by fried chicken, rotisserie pork and African chicken stew. Desserts are brownies, pecan pie and pineapple cake. The charge is about $17 for adults and $9 for kids. Expensive for lunch, but a bargain for what you get. It is my understanding that this is a test program, and it currenlty is only being offered through May 18. There are two seating times daily, at Noon and 2 PM. Only 56 people per session, so it is tough to get in. You can make your PS up to 60 days in advance, assuming that it is extended.

Do you already have a PS for the ice cream social? When I was there in March, I was told at Epcot that the social had been discontinued. What's the latest?

My understanding with the Ice Cream Social is that it is a seasonal thing. It may be open one month, and then closed the next, not following a particular schedule. I understand that people have been able to get PS for May.
