I agree, why would I pay twice as much to stay on site if there weren't perks for WDW resort guests. I think the perks are worth it and others don't, it's all in what you are looking for as a family. Early Entry wouldn't be EE if everyone got in an hour early.

EE is one of the main reasons I choose to stay on site.

I'm confused. Are there or are there not early entry days anymore? The new Birnbaum says they don't have them anymore and in Jan. when we were there they didn't have them, but lots of you guys say they still have them. Can someone tell me.

As far as I know Early Entry (Extra Magic Hour) is back by popular demand. In July one park opened early every day. It wasn't new then but I couldn't tell you when it was brought back.

Okay....

Sorry I did not mean to hit a chord... I guess I need to rethink this... I have to say I did almost choose to stay Disney, then I was told the Early Entry no longer existed and I canceled those plans and went with the off site choice...

Too late to change resies now... I am happy for you that are on site that you have had this perk returned to you!! :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one wondering why they ask where you are staying when you call up to make a PS. I guess it makes a lot of sense though.

Our family probably hasn't figured out the best way to get around the parks on early entry days... Usually, we end up going to a park that is not an early entry day because we find those parks to be less crowded than the early entry parks. Someone once told me that as soon as I enter an early park....almost run as fast as I can to the farthest point away from entry and enjoy because most folks are at the entry area and working their way back. We haven't done that as yet. Is that what some of you do?

Extra Magic Hour was introduced in October of 2002 as a replacement for Early Entry Mornings, which was discontinued in October of 2001 after the decline in tourism following 9/11. When the 2003 Birnbaum Guide was published in Summer of 2002, Early Entry had been discontinued and no one knew if or when it would return. The compensation was a Character Caravan that came to the resorts several times a week in the mornings to greet the guests on the way to the park. Evidently, guests weren't happy with this substitution, and Early Entry became what it is today. When it was reintroduced as Extra Magic Hour, it also included Animal Kingdom, which it did not previously.

The days are as follows:
Sunday: Magic Kingdom
Monday: Animal Kingdom
Tuesday: Disney/Mgm
Wednesday: Epcot
Thursday: Magic Kingdom
Friday: Animal Kingdom
Saturday: Disney/Mgm

What we do is go to the early entry park when it opens, enjoy our favorite rides until about lunchtime when the crowds get to be too much. Then we go to a different park! It really worked out great for us and I recommend it. JMHO

I agree, that's what we try to do as well. We tried to take a break every day about 2 so we would eat lunch and head back the our resort to swim and clean up for dinner then hit a different park for the evening.

I always found that an EE at the MK was an excellent day to book a late character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare at the GF. We'd get there early, do all the rides we could by 11 a.m. and then take the monorail over to the GF. (I'd always get the latest possible time for breakfast). It was the most uncrowded time. The characters would spend lots of time with our kids, we'd eat a big brunch that would hold us till evening. Then we'd take the monorail over to Epcot, where people who had toured Future World would be moving to the World Showcase. We'd do a very uncrowded Future World. This worked really well.

That really sounds like a great idea Llama. I will have to try to remember that for the future! I have never even been in the GF.

I am going to have to give that a try Llama.
It sounds like a good game plan for our family. Stacey

We do something similar to llama too. We go to MK for Early hour and then hit Chef Mickey for late breakfast (my son would rather spend more time with Mickey).
