Is Boma Worth A Trip To AKL?

I've posed this question in the Resorts forum but need additional opinions: We're staying at Port Orleans Riverside in February and usually go to Polynesian's Ohana when we've got a day we're not visiting a theme park. This season we were considering taking the POR river cruise to Disney Marketplace then hopping the bus to AKL. I recognize the difference between the two restaurants; but is Boma worth travelling to the resort for? From what I've read online; the food is exotic without being intimitating, high quality, great desserts and a varied menu for picky eaters. Incidentals like poor service, crowds, lines, noise, a messy dining room and the cost don't concern me; it's a buffet. What I am interested in; is it worth the trip and as good as the reviews I've read?

In a word, YES! Make a PS for it, or you will have a long wait. Even in the off season. The food is great! You won't be disappointed.

Cyndy -

Have you had their breakfast? I have a PS there for breakfast one morning and am curious on how that is. I can't wait to try it out.

My husband is probably one of the only individuals I know who didn't like Boma's. We went again and he liked it much better - he has mac-n-cheese tastes and the adventurousness of things just didn't suit him.

I like to recommend, however, that if you're making the effort to go to Boma's, try to arrange your PS around visiting the resort and it's many cultural activities. If you have children, go a couple of hours ahead of your PS and visit Arusha Rock, go to the children's musical parade through the lobby, try the cultural games. There's a sheet of them posted by the bell station, and right down by Boma's itself.

If you've no children, get an earlier PS, grab a glass of wine, and go to the Cultural Safari around 8:30 at night and listen to how folks live in SA. Also remember to visit Arusha Rock and watch the animals.

They get so many visitors at this resort it teems with activity in the evenings. It's energizing, yet not overwhelming, and EVERYone seems in a good mood.

While I love the Resort,I am one that does not like Bomas I did not like the food ( I am a very picky eater and ended up eating off the childrens bar) because I did not like the taste of anything on the adult bar except some of the desserts of course:whistle: :D

Never eaten at Bomas but Jiko is definitely worth the trip (sans kids, I wouldn't take my kids there anyway) It is absolutely wonderful!

I am going to second Mickey Mac. Even if you decide not to eat at Boma's the AKL is worth a visit just to see the resort. It has so much to offer, even if you aren't staying there.

Cheryl, if you don't care for Boma's, but someone else in your party does, head to the counter service Mara's. They have last night's overruns for the specials of the day, plus the desserts - you can get a four pack of the zebra domes and other assorted desserts.

It's a *fabulous* place to use the Quick and Casual meal vouchers (a taste of Boma's, for the cost of a voucher)

Regarding the trip to AKL from another Disney resort; does the staff seem to mind if people from other resorts linger about? I'm asking because my parents have a condo in Orlando they rent from January-April so we've been visiting them and WDW for over 20 years. Before they started carding people and fenced in the waterpark that Beach and Yacht Club share; we went there several times a year. While I don't intend to swim before or after dining at Boma; we would like to explore the property without getting hassled or the boot.

If you tell them that you are there to eat and look around the resort, they will not say anything to you.
