Hoop Dee Doo vs. Spirit of Aloha
Any thoughts on which is better with a four year old and almost two year old? Also, on food quality. I see so much feedback on how good Ohana's is. Do they serve the same type of food at the aloha dinner as Ohana's restaurant?

Your kids would probably have more fun at Ohanas. They have games and are geared to the kids. The Luau is fun also and they do bring the kids up on the stage, but some kids are shy or too young and don't go. But it's Disney and it's all good!! Have a Magical vacation!! :D :) Joe

I agree with the above posts, but if you are choosing just between Spirit of Aloha and the Hoop-De-Doo and O'Hana's is not an option...then I would definitely pick the Hoop-De-Doo.
I have taken my three year old daughter twice and both times she loved the show. Also the wait staff is fantastic with kids and both times they were able to get my daughter more "kid friendly" choices from the Trails End Buffet (attached restaurant). At the spirit of aloha they were able to offer us a peanut butter and jelly sandwich , but the macaroni and cheese at the hoop-de-doo won my daughter over. Hope this helps! Amy

Thanks for the info. I think we will keep our PS at Hoop Dee Doo and then dine at Ohana's on another night! Sounds too good to pass up. We decided to stay at a value resort and spend our money on other important things...food!!!

Please let me know how you like the Hoop Dee Doo when you return. I have PS in October and couldn't decide between the Hoop and the dinner show at the Polynesian.
I have a 9 and 11 year old. thanks, |

Re: Hoop Dee Doo vs. Spirit of Aloha
Hoop De Doo wins hands down, easy. Last week we did Spirit of Aloha, O'hannas, and Hoop De Doo. We loved HDD. SoA is intertaing and worth seeing once. The food is the same at SoA and HDD, chicken and ribs. One has roasted chicken(SoA), the other has fried (HDD). The lady leading the entertainers at SoA does have all the children and birthday people come up on the stage and try to follow one of the dancers in one of their slow dances. I saw several kids crying.
HDD, they came out and sang with the audience and they were super funny. I videoed most of the show and you can hear me giving goofy style chuckles in the background. Both of the food is "ok" at SoA and HDD. O'hana's- they say you are all cousins so they call you cousin the whole time. For the kids they have them swat cocounts around the resturant with small brooms, and have a hula hoop spinning contest. The food was pretty good, but nothing to get too excited about.

Re: Hoop Dee Doo vs. Spirit of Aloha
Well, just wanted to report that we loved Hoop Dee Doo and Ohana's. We thought the food was great at both. My four year old was picked to go onstage at the HDD, but he cheerfully told Dolly "NO"! HDD was very entertaining and the fried chicken and ribs were fabulous. My DH was glad that I got tickets for it.
The food at Ohana's was very good. We were seated by the window and had a great view of the castle. We did not get to see the fireworks from there because it was Saturday and they did not start until ten. My four year old loved the coconut races and my almost two year old loved *attempting* the hulo hoops! We had plenty of food and I could not stop eating the green beans of all things...go figure! I think this is the best meal for the money. And I had to get seconds of the shrimp--YUM! The pineapple and caramel is a great way to end the meal. Thanks for all of you advise. I am glad we stuck with HDD! |
