PS needed in Dec?
Hi all,
I am going to Disney Nov 28- Dec 3. I keep hearing that this is not a crowded time, but is it crowded enough for me to need to make PS's for meals? I would think yes for any character meals, but how about just regular meals? Oh, in case it makes a difference know that there will be 5 of us (3 year old included). Thanks.

This is the time we usually go at. We do our PSs for character meals ahead of time. Getting Chef Mickey's is always difficult (but I wait until like 2 months before to start trying!). For the other restaurants, half the time we make the PSs in the morning of the day we will go there, the other half of the time I call from the hotel or park on our way to the restaurant! There ARE lines, especailly at dinner times. We waited about a half hour at Portebello this year (no PS). And I called from MK to the Poly for a res at Kona Cafe, and we still had to wait about 15minutes. (We tried just showing up last year, and waited 45!) Oh, and Coral Reef was tricky to make a PS from home for too; don't get quite why though. The rule I use is if it's an "important" one that we really want to go, I call from home just to make sure that I know we won't miss out. :)

Oh, to counteract the above -- on the other hand, we walked right up to the English pub and got seated instantly. It's pretty much always a toss-up, I think. :)

Even though that time of year is considered non-peak it has been getting more and more crowded as the years pass. Think more people are catching onto what a wonderful time of year to visit the parks with the Christmas decorations up and no heat and humidity.
I would suggest going ahead and making PS's for things you really want to do. If you are uncertain then just play it by ear. We tend to do 3/4 of ours as PS's.

I would suggest making all of the PS that you think you will need. There isn't any cost, and if you decide that day that you aren't going to make it, you can always cancel, or just not show up.
We usually travel in early December, and our experience has been the same as most others. Some restaurants, there are not waits, others, it can be 2 hours.

I agree with all of the above. If you want a specific place call now. I always do our ps as soon as I know our schedule and on 2 occasions we have called that morning to cancel. Even though it is Dec, I would go ahead and call. Expecially for Rose and Crown if you plan to watch Illuminations from their patio (great view) or any character meal.

The above posts are absolutely correct. It's better safe than sorry, so make those PS and if you use them, great. If you don't, no big deal either. Someone that is sitting there waiting as a walk-in will get to use that slot, so you kinda make them a little happy. ;) PS are just a good idea, just to make sure you get a seat at the places you and your family really want to eat.
I also agree with DougiesMommy, it is considered "off-peak," but that doesn't mean that it is a ghost town there. There are still plenty of people. Planning is the key. :)
