Ohana's or Spirit of Aloha Luau??
Hello all,
I was just thinking about where to make PS, and many many years ago, my family took me to the Luau at the Poly, and I really enjoyed it. I was considering it for my next trip. However, I have never been to Ohana's, and from what I've read, they do have entertainment and all you can eat (which is like the Luau). As for DC, I've only heard wonderful things about Ohana's, but not really anything about the Luaw. Has anyone done both and have a preference? Or any other info that might be helpful? thanks in advance everyone!

We have done both. I prefer O' hana. One reason is SOA is outside. It was really hot when we saw it! Add the fire from the dancers and it was warm. This was in August. So maybe during a cooler month it would be OK.
Also the food is better at O'hana. We make a trip to WDW 2-3 times a year. We always eat at O'hana while we are there. We have a young DD (4) and SOA was just too much for her. Maybe with older kids or just adults it would be better. There are hula hoop contests and coconut and broom races for the kids at O'hana. I enjoyed SOA, but given a choice I would prefer O'hana. IMO, SOA is worth doing once, but I would not go again. I could eat at O'hana once a month and never get tired of it. Karen |

So, is Ohana's entertainment kind of on the kiddie side? It's just 2 adults, my boyfriend and myself. We are going in early September. Do you know the prices of each by any chance? Is one a better deal than the other or is about the same?

Ohana is much less expensive than the luau. I believe the dinner shows run about $50 a person. Ohana is, I believe, $23.99.

Ohana's is not kiddie oriented. They have some things for the kids to participate in. Depending on where you sit, you may not even realize it is going on (you'll just hear an announcement for it). There really isn't any entertainment at Ohana's. We ate there for the first time on our last trip. The food is good and we will definitely do it again.
SOA changed its show not to long ago. It is a litttle different than when you were a kid.

I would have to say the food is better at Ohana's. Have done both... Did the Luau several years ago, and then had to see SOA, which was nice, but after you've seen it once, that was enough for me.... Please don't get me wrong , we enjoyed the show, but I think the food was much better at Ohana's. Good luck in your decision!!!:) JOANN

Ohanas is our favorite place to go out to dinner at wdw. My family prefered the food at ohanas rather then the luau.Plus they do games with the kids where they get little candies at the end of each.If you get a window seat it has a nice overview of the magic kingdom at night ;)

We haven't done the new luau, but we did do the old one. Didn't actually care for it all that much. The food was mediocre, if that, and the show was okay but nothing to write home about. It seems like alot of money for something that, IMHO, I could take or leave. I suppose everyone should do it once but I wouldn't go back again. Hoop dee Doo review, on the other hand, I wouldn't mind doing more often. Have been three times and wouldn't say no if I had the chance to go again!

:) We have done both in the same trip too. I liked O'hanas for breakfast. It was a great character breakfast with Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie, Chip, Dale, and another one I forgot who. The food was great and they got the kids up to do a conga line around the whole restaurant. The Luau was nice, but the food wasn't the best. It was OK, but the show is fun. I've been to a luau in Hawaii and it was almost the same (food was different though). It wasn't all you could eat when I went. We are actually doing the Luau this July mostly for the in-laws who've never been and have never been to Hawaii either.
If you're picking for the food, pick O'hanas. If you're picking for the entertainment they are both good.

Wow, it looks like Ohana's is the clear winner here! I guess since everyone says the food is better the price is better, that's what we'll do. Thanks for all the input everyone! (although, i was kinda hoping you all said the luau, only because I'm allowed to make my PS for that now, instead of waiting like i have to with all the other restaurants) you know how it is-making your PSs makes the trip seem that much closer!! haha:laugh Thanks again DCers!:)

flying from BDL in CT. Most likely Song by Delta unless something cheaper comes along. I'd like to drive, but it would take up too much of the little time off that I can get!
