Icon4 Help!

This is SUPER last minute...they don't call me "The Procrastinator" for nothing... (not sold in stores!) But anyways...

My family, surprisingly enough, is actually doing some heavy duty Disney planning for our trip starting May 24-29. Ya know...the kind of stuff you guys do everyday. ) So far, we've got reservations at Akershus on our Epcot day (Tuesday). So here is question number one: Where is the best place to sit for Illuminations, which starts at nine? I've only ever seen it in that big empty space between FW and WS. Our reservations are at 6:30, me thinks, so I'm sure we'll have enough time...btw, I'm going with two parents who...well, let's just say their bones aren't what they used to be. ^_^ Sitting on concrete for an hour may not be conducive to their health.

Also, we're thinking of eating at Ohana's...maybe Friday or Saturday night. I'm surprised we were able to get a reservation at The California Grill that week...what do you guys think our chances are? Me...the cheap one in the family...thinks Akershus and Cali Grill is enough expensive food for one week, not including a possible trip to Capt. Jacks.

...hm. It seems I forgot my other questiones... But don't worry! I'll be back! Thanks for answering if anyone can! I miss you guys, I hope to be on more now that finals are over!!

Re: Help!

Well, the ULTIMATE place to watch Illuminations is from a pontoon boat under the bridge, but since you're probably spending enough money on some very nice meals, I'll suggest anyplace along the water, especially the little outside area at Rose & Crown. There are quite a few benches along the water, but at Rose & Crown there are nice little tables & you can get a pint (or yard!) & truly enjoy it.

Re: Help!

Oooh, thanks, ilvminnie! But...isn't there a certain angle to view Illuminations? I always thought you had to see it from the "front" (that blank space I mentioned.) But I could be wrong...I just want my folks to enjoy it to the max either way!!

I don't think so...I've watched it from many angles & loved all of them. The big globe rotates so you'll see everything. Of course, come to think of it, I've never watched from the America side of EPCIT. When we were on the boat it parks under the bridge that leads to France & it was great!

Re: Help!

We have watched Illumination from several different places. We walk around the lagoon, go up to the railing and look in every direction so see what the view would be like. (Obviously, the less obstructions, the better.) And don't forget to look up, the trees can be a problem. Once you find a spot, there may be a bench behind you for your parents to sit at until the show starts.
We were very happy with a spot somewhere infront of Germany a few years ago. Our best view was right across from USA however, those are concrete spots only. We go to Illuminations at least twice each trip and try a new spot each time.
Have a great time!

Re: Help!

There isnt really a bad spot for Illuminations, however just watch out for the trees. I usually try to be by the bridge to FW so I can get out of the park easier. Also very important: try not to be standing in the direction that the wind is blowing or you will see nothing but smoke.
