"upside down trees" in AK

Anyone know anything about the "upside down" trees on the Safari ride at Animal Kingdom? Are these fake, man made trees? Do trees like this really exist anywhere?

Leaving in a couple of days and have been wondering about this since our 1st trip to AK.

Not that I'm a wealth of knowledge or anything ;) , but if they're on the safari ride then it's safe to assume that they really DO exist. Whether the ones you see are real or, uh, recreations is another story. The majority of the safari ride is real, but it's kinda engineered real, so if they couldn't get the right size tree they wanted, they may have gone and made one. Sounds like a good question to ask the safari guide!

Yes, those trees do exist in nature. The baobab tree can get quite old. All of the baobabs on the ride are fake, made of concrete. They originally house the feeding areas for the giraffes, but that system has been modified. They also contain security cameras, if you look close enough. There are two other fake trees on the ride, tall stumps that still house food for the giraffes. There is one live baobab tree in the park, just outside the Tusker House restaurant. You can see the images below, the first, a real baobab in Africa, the second, the live one in Disney.

Here's a link to a page that will give you lots of information about the baobab tree.

Boy, did you ask the right people! When we were in AK last real, we ask if they were real. (We knew they existed because my son is a nature nut.) The response from the CM was something along the lines of, "Of course they're real - Disney does everything right!" We assumed from this answer that they were, indeed, fake. It is nice to know for sure. Thanks.

Re: "upside down trees" in AK

2 little corrections:

1. The "security cameras" in the fake Baobab trees are not actually security cameras, they are part of the "Animal Cam" experience at Conservation Station. The cameras give a birds eye view of the savannah, and many of them are inside the animal barns, where you can see the animals sleeping, eating, getting weighed, see keepers working, etc.

2. The real boabab tree in front of Tusker's House restaurant is no longer there, it died a few months ago.
