Outside food in Parks?

Does anyone know if you are aloud to bring outside food and drinks into the parks. I dont want to go through all the hassel of packing lunches if I have to leave it in the car . I see they tell you to bring lots of water, but what about the other stuff.

Re: Outside food in Parks?

I think "officially" the answer is no. However, I have never had problems bringing in snacks or drinks.

I am pretty sure that the anwser is no. When you go into the park they check your bags, so I do not know what to tell you there.

Re: Outside food in Parks?

We have almost always brought some kind of food in with us. The bag checkers have never said anything was wrong with us doing so and we have been at least 5 times just this year. I say pack what food you wish and don't give it a second thought.

Re: Outside food in Parks?

All the guidebooks say the official answer is "no". They don't want 'picnic' style foods brought into the parks.

When we were there this past March, there was a lady who was getting her backpack checked and it looked as though she could have fed a small army. The bag checker was rummaging around her bag and she asked him "so, what would you like for lunch". He laughed and told her to go on through.

We brought in a few small bags of chips and cookies for snacks; nobody ever said anything to us either.

I agree with bumble73, don't give it a second thought.

Re: Outside food in Parks?

I have been bringing in snacks and sodas for 13 years now. I have never been stopped from eating or drinking what I have brought. I have also NEVER seen any signs at any park entrance that said no outside food or drink may be brought in. I am a Pepsi person,so I don't drink Coke if I can help it. Also,at $2.50 a bottle, I estimate that I have saved thousands of dollars over the years by drinking my own soda.

Re: Outside food in Parks?

Well you can bring your own snacks and sodas in, but not to an extreme.
Don't think you can bring in a cooler packed with sandwiches and a 6 pack of coke.
If you're thinking of a bottle of water or 2 and some snacks like granola bars and such then thats ok.
Its basically like going to a theater, you can eat there and officially your nots supposed to bring outside food, but if you sneak it in you're ok. Just like in a theater don't try sneaking in a bag of McDonalds, for some reasons they don't like that, go figure!

Last year we took a rolling cooler in everyday!!!! We had pop and sandwiches and water bottles and snacks!! They checked it at every gate and never said a word!! Only asked if there were any alcoholic drinks!!! Other than that never batted an eye at the food or the drinks!!!

That is how we save money at the lunches!! Our friends have done it every time they have gone!!!!

Re: Outside food in Parks?

I guess I have a diff opinion of coolers, being a guy, when it comes to coolers I think of tailgating parties. I guess one of those insulated cooler bags is fine, with sandwhiches and such.
What I shoulda said was that don't bring in a huge cooler that takes two people to carry filled with a whole chicken, potatoe salad, coleslaw, some steaks and a lot of beer!
If you keep it simple and small it will be fine. I just didn't want to sound like I was against taking in food, I do it too. then again I cant resist the snacks in the park, so I don't bring in more than a couple granola bars! I'm on vaca after all!

DST this thread (like so many) started a conversation between DH and I .. we thought mmmm maybe we could save a few dollars and do this ..but in the end decided the inconvience of lugging something else around out weighed any savings. And we ended up totally agreeing with you (this was before you posted ) that we like eating in the parks at places like Flame Tree at AKL !!!

Re: Outside food in Parks?

Well Tink it is Vaca after all, I know folks wanna save a few bux, but I'll gladly spend a couple dollars to get that turkey leg for lunch! Its soo big it feeds 2.
Anyways on my past trip I learned something, ditch the bags! I carried a bag for 2 days out of my trip, it was just too much! The rest of the time I wore cargo pants and put the camera (since thats all we really wanted) in my pants.
I just can't see the justification with extra baggage unless you do have kids or medicine. I hardly got thirsty at the parks, and if I did I knew where the water fountains are, plus each food place gives ice water if you ask.
This debate will go on and on, so it all depends on where you stand.
So Tink you and me are on the same page, its vaca, enjoy it. PLus standing in lines its a real pain, with crowds either tripping over or running into your baggage. Lets not mention always having to watch in during shows in fear of looters!

Re: Outside food in Parks?

I am also all about eating in the parks......I guess that I should have specified when I started this thread that I was just talking about some frozen water bottles and small snacks for my 2yo who needs to eat (snack)constantly, and some PB&J. I wish I had her metabolism....almost three and barely weighs 23lbs. I just wanted to make sure they werent gonna turn me away at the gate. (They actually do this a baseball games. You either throw it away or take it back to the car. I'm talking about fruitsnacks and goldfish. I told the man one time he was crazy!) Anyway, I'll just pack her bag like I do anyother day. With the extras of course.
Thanks for the input.
