Re: Magic Kingdom cool secrets???

If you dont have little kids you may not know about this.....at the baby changing station off of Main Street they have a "family" bathroom. Alot of times if someone in our party needs a bathroom break and the other bathrooms are crowded the baby changing station often is empty or only has a few people in it. There are regular bathrooms in the same area as the baby station but alot of people dont realize there are also these bathrooms inside that anyone can use.

Psssssssssst..dont tell anyone else...lol

Re: Magic Kingdom cool secrets???

Well, my favorite-est thing is the cookies and cream milkshake at the Plaza restaraunt! They make them with real icecream and milk -- not like a Friendly's Fribble (which are good too, but different) or a McDonalds shake which is grainy ice stuff. It's soooooo creamy and yummy!! And they have other flavors than just strawberry chocolate and vanilla. Their sandwich platters are great too. HUGE portions, and not really more than $10.

Although the river boat can be long and boring, it DOES pass an anamtronic Indian village. I swear this used to be bigger and/or visible from land when I was a kid, but it is still VERY cool. Also, on the train ride between Frontierland and Toontown there's an anamatronic moose and some other things in the woods to the side of the train tracks. It was really weird as it looked so out in the middle of nowhere that it was like it was put there years ago and must have been forgotten (but it LOOKS well maintained).

There's also an animotronic lounge singer (moose-like) at the fast food place in tomorrow land, Cosmic Rays (I think it is). But that's listed in a lot of the guidebooks. His name is Sunny Eclipse. Also in guidebooks are the two presidents who whisper to each other in the hall of presidents. They are no located on the left (as you look at it) side of the stage instead of the right where they used to be. I think. They have moved, I'm quite sure. Also, it seems when they overhauled the attraction they didn't programme back in most of the movements the characters made. They were much more life-like and fidgetty before!!! (My favorite memory from '85 is Ronald Regan tapping his foot. It just blew me away that someone was that creative and paid that much attention to detail that they went through all the expense and hard work to put that in. Sigh...) (Can you tell my fav's are the audio animatronic characters?? :) )

Re: Magic Kingdom cool secrets???

Take notice of the third floors on the Main Street Shops. Supposedly they are not the normal floor size. It is suppose to help with the illusion of when leaving the park, the exit seems closer than it really is and when entering the park, somewhat of the same effect.

There are a lot of neat "did you know" facts on the hidden mickeys website which is where I learned that tidbit.

Re: Magic Kingdom cool secrets???

Personally, on days when MK is Ultra crowded we like to take the monorail to one of the resorts for lunch.

My Grandpa used to ride the PeopleMover with my little brother and sister when we were on Space Mountain too. Everytime we're on it we give a shout for him. He must have spent hours on that ride.

Under the streets of the MK are tunnels for the the workers and food transportation to move around without disturbing the tourists. MK is actually 14 ft above normal ground.

Re: Magic Kingdom cool secrets???

Casey's Corner at the end of Main Street has the best hot dogs in the world. Cheese sauce is free!

Not many people know this, but going back to hiner's talk about Main Street's buildings, but the buildings look normal, but you feel bigger, b/c they are not up to normal scale. They were designed in that fashion in order for one to feel larger than life. Just some more magic to go!

Re: Magic Kingdom cool secrets???

Also, take a look at the names of the people on the windows of the second floor of Main street's buildings. They are the names of past Disney execs, imagineers, etc.

Fooling the eye into thinking something is bigger than it actually is is called forced perspective. The buildings along Main Street look like they're 3 stories high, but in reality are only 2 stories high. The first floor is actual size, the second story is 7/8 the size of the first, and the third story is 7/8 of the second story. City Hall & the Exposition Hall, though, are both full size.

Main Street, by the way, is fashioned after the main street in Marceline, Missouri, the town where Walt Disney grew up.

Another interesting tidbit: The names on the window advertisements on the upper floors along Main Street are the names of real people, most of them Disney executives -- and most of them no longer with the company. Some of the company names on the window advertisements are insider references to the "dummy" corporations that were used to conceal Disney's identity when the company was buying all the land that now makes up the Walt Disney World Resort.

Cinderella's castle is also built on a forced perspective. Take a look at Tink climbing out of one of the topmost windows and you'll see how big she is in relation to the tower.

Also, this has always cracked me up, because Walt spent like 10 months or something in Marceline, MO, but he wanted everyone to think he grew up there. He thought "small town" would be more charming.

Walt lived in Marceline from April of 1906 to the summer of 1911, when the family moved to Kansas City. Walt was born in Chicago in December of 1901, where the family lived until moving to Marceline.
