Icon10 Planning a trip in May 2005

We are planning a trip to WDW in May of 2005, and plan on staying at Pop Century because it looks like fun! I would like some input on the resort and also when the best time to book the trip would be and the best way to do so.(Myself, travel agent, etc). We were last there in 2002 and really ready for our next Disney adventure. There will be 2 adults and a 14 year old girl.

Well, I havent stayed at PC yet, but will be in November. If you click on search you'll find TONS of reviews...or just ask Tinkerbell! You'll probably get a huge response for using Mousketrips. Mickey, who runs this site, also does that and I've heard nothing but rave reviews! It doesn't cost anything extra and they make sure you get everything you want at the lowest price possible, without you having to do any work. I enjoy making the plans myself. So I know you'll get a great resonse here!

Hi!

I haven't stayed at the PC either, but I would highly reccomend booking your trip with Mousektrips. They have a link on the home page of DC. They are doing my January trip and have been EXCELLENT! They will get you the best possible deal and the lowest price. They are great with changes and working with you, so definately at least call and talk to them. I would book now. You can pay off a little at a time instead of trying to to the whole thing at once. Nothing is more magicxal then a completely paid for vacation. Our Tinkerbell has stayed at PC a few times and is in love with the place. I am certain she can give you the "skinny" on the resort. Just give her a PM. She's so helpful. BTW: Tink is a Mousektrips customer too. We both love the services they provide.

Re: Planning a trip in May 2005

OK personally, I would not recomend PC. We stayed there and had multiple problems. The CM's there just have still not gotten things together, and just do not act like Disney employees. I really didn't like the atmosphere inside the Food Court at night. There are TONS of people are in there for their midnight snack(not literally) and they all want their food now and the crowds were very large. They never opened all the registers to check out, so the lines were pretty long. By the way, this was in a very off peak time. I hope that this doesn't completely turn you off of PC, because it is a beautiful resort and I love looking back at past decades. I would recomend the 70's building to put in for your request because it is closest to the bus stops and food court. I think the 90's building would just be a long walk to fill up your mugs. On the other hand, Tinkerbell has been to PC and stayed 3 times (?) and has had a wonderful expirience everytime and has stayed in the 90's and loved it. I think if you plan things out right the 90's building could be wonderful if you could get a drink and stay in your room the rest of the night. I hope Tinkerbell will post on here for you!!!

In terms of choosing who to have it book your reservation. I would say that you should book it. Keep watching for discounts for rooms or packages. I would recomend a room only reservation over a package deal, because I think you get a better deal buying it all seperatly. Just keep checking the DC homepage, because Mickey posts all the new room/package discounts on the front page.

Re: Planning a trip in May 2005

I have stayed at PC three times since it has opened, and I highly recommend it. I had no problems at all in the food court. It was never more than a five minute walk to Classic Hall or the bus stops from any building I stayed in(80's twice and 70's once). You will not go wrong staying there. May is usually regular season,so if you have an AP or are a Florida resident, the room will probably run around 69 dollars a night when the discounts come out.

Re: Planning a trip in May 2005

You can book the trip now and start paying it off. Also, when the discounts come out,you can call to cancel your reservation and re-book. Actually,Mouseketrips, the Disney-only travel agency run by Mickey who also runs DC,would be a great travel agency to do that for you.

Re: Planning a trip in May 2005

I think you'll be fine in any of the Values. One of the real advantage of Pop Century over the All-Stars is that there is only one bus stop. While the Values have certainly had their glitches, it seems that most people have had wonderful experiences there, me included.

As far as when to go, the first 3 weeks in May are generally quite nice, both in terms of weather and crowds. We went the last two years. In 2003, we went the second week and just this past May we went the third week. Rarely did we wait in line and the weather was beautiful (although 2003 was a tiny bit warm and this year, our last day was the first day of the end of Spring heatwave that hit Orlando this year).

Sounds like you'll have a great trip.

I have never stayed at PC, but I think you should shoot for as early in May as possible, as you will want to avoid the crowds which will be getting out of school in late May.

Re: Planning a trip in May 2005

We were at PC 2 weeks ago and had the best time. I loved that resort. We had no problems with crowds at the food court. All employees are very nice. It was a fun place. We stayed in the 70s building and it was nice to be close to the food court and main pool. There were some times it was noisy at night with the pool view. We had good success with the bus service.

I booked the trip myself but I learned some things after that I could have changed. It worked out alright because I got a special after the fact and got a price change. In the future I would consider using the travel agent everyone is talking about here. This has been such a helpful site.

I hope you stay at PC!

Re: Planning a trip in May 2005

My family stayed at PC this past May and had a wonderful time. So worth it for the money. This was our first trip so I can't compare it to any other Disney hotel. We stayed in the 70's building and I thought it was pretty close to everything. The food court was never bad when we went in there but I can honestly say that we did not use it that much. But when we did it was pleasant. We got the room for $69 a night the third week in May. I suggest you make the reservation now if you have your date picked and just call and switch when the discounts come out next year. Or use Mickey and he can do all of the work for you at the same price.

The lines for the buses were long at night, as they all were. Sometimes I did notice that the all star lines seemed a lot shorter than PC for some reason. I have trouble with my ankle now from an hour long bus ride back to PC on our last night there. I had to stand up carrying a sleeping two year old and the ride back took twice as long because they were repaving the roads The only bad part of the entire trip.

All in all, I would definitely recommend Pop Century to anyone. You can't beat what you get for the price. And we had good service from everyone.

Don't forget May will have Epcot's International Flower and Garden Festival, which is always a delight, especially the Flower Power concert series.
