Travelers should stay up to date on storms approaching Florida

Any DCers traveling to and from Orlando in the next few days should keep up to date on the activities of the two storms that are approaching the state. Neither storm is very strong, but Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has declared a state of emergency and has activated the national guard. This is the state's better-safe-than-sorry mode.

Tropical storm Bonnie is expected to make landfall Thursday in the Florida Panhandle. Hurricane Charley is in the Caribbean and one projection I've seen has it cutting a swath through Central Florida. At the very least, the Orlando weather forecast is calling for high winds and heavy rains on Friday.

Here is the link to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (noaa weather). If you type "Orlando, FL" in the local forcast spot you can read the forcast for hazardous weather conditions http://www.noaa.gov/

This site is updated every few minutes....very up to date.

You'll be fine...the storm is moving really fast and should be back out in the water by then.

Re: Travelers should stay up to date on hurricanes approaching Florida

Last year we were supposed to get the tail end of a hurricane (high winds and rain) on my wedding day, which was outside in a garden. But the storm hit the night before, and it was sunny on my day, so you never can tell. It could clear up or pass through quickly.

Re: Travelers should stay up to date on hurricanes approaching Florida

The storm is expected to make landfall in the tampa/St. Pete area, but the worst part of the storm is on the eastern side of it...that doesn't bode well for the Orlando area when the storm moves through land. It's gonna be a 2 or a low 3 when it hits so you figure at the speed it's moving wind and rain will be seen throughout central and north Florida.

Those of us in Tampa are battening down the hatches and getting ready for the hit. I am at work today going through all of our emergency procedures to get ready for recovery.
