What's Gonna Happen Where RIVER COUNTRY used to be?

I'm just curious. I saw Wildnerness Lodge featured on the Travel Channel yesterday and it jogged my memory of the River Country water park which I always thought was great. Now it's just kinda sitting there...

That's exactly what's going on. It's just sitting there behind walls. There have been rumors, but I don't think Disney even knows what they are going to do with it yet.

Re: What's Gonna Happen Where RIVER COUNTRY used to be?

We talked to a CM after Mickey's BYBBQ in May and he said that Disney is dumping it's money in other areas, where they are making money, and he hasn't really heard anything on what they might do. He said it needs so much work, since it has been closed for so many years and not kept up. It is so weird to see the tower and some of the rock formations with a wall around everything.

People who have never had the chance to experience, or even heard or River Country, are probably thinking it is gonna be a new park or pool for the campground with the walls around everything. Such a shame.

Re: What's Gonna Happen Where RIVER COUNTRY used to be?

problem is that many times, when something just shuts down they don't do anything with it. Just like all the assumptions about the 20K LUtS attraction, I haven't heard anything going in that spot, even though the subs and all are still good to go.... So easy to make a finding nemo attraction...*sigh*
River country is just dead, which is a shame. Although since it is actually lake water, what more can they do with it?? Make it into a resort area? I suppose, but with so much at WDW their efforts awlays go somewhere else.

Re: What's Gonna Happen Where RIVER COUNTRY used to be?

For a while some TV stations used it, but that was not long after it closed to the public. It was one of the swim parks that I liked, it was simple and none of the slides hurt me... but I know everyone wants bigger and better...LOL... Oh well I doubt they will do much with it unless they decide to add it to FW. Oh well just my opinion.šošJudy

It's really a shame that I never got to visit RC. I imagine Judy's right about the slides being less painful--I am 19 years old, and I *still* can't handle a lot of the slides at TL/BB. Frankly, I don't like leaving a water park feeling like I just got beat up! I think I really would have enjoyed the simplicity/calm of RC. I hope they do something neat with it eventually.
