Smoking Policy in WDW?
Question:
I am a smoker (agg, gasp, I know) Are you allowed to smoke inside the parks? I believe that Florida Law prohibits smoking in any building, but I was wondering about WDW. Cause, if we can't smoke anywhere in the parks, it might be time now to start quiting. Thanks. Jen & Stu ps Reading posts everyday and keeping up with everyone, just no time to post - working too many hours to save for this trip!

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
Yes, you can, only in designated smoking areas. Disney's free guidemaps that you pick up in each park will show you where it's okay to smoke.

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
There are designated areas, but I don't think there are many of them. Now would be a perfect time to quit. Think of how much better you'll be able to do all that hiking around the parks with clear lungs! And think of how many more years you'll be alive to enjoy your children and/or grandchildren.

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
As a fellow smoker, I will tell you that there are more than enough smoking areas in WDW. There are very clearly marked on all maps and a CM will gladly point you to one if you ask. I cringe when I see people lighting up anywhere they want. Rules are in place for a reason. Let's not turn this thread into a debate. I see the writing on the wall.

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
I too am a smoker and was hoping to quit while there knowing there were designated areas in the parks. Of course did not work, but I made it through the day with no problem. When we got back to the hotel, that was the only time I smoked...outside.
I think most of the resorts now have non-smoking rooms. We would sit outside our room and smoke and no one said anything. As a matter of fact, we met the most wonderful family from Holland while sitting outside of our room smoking. We would put the boys to bed and the four of us would hang outside the rooms and talk for hours. Whatever you decide, WDW is pretty well signed with smoking areas.

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
The new Florida law does not allow smoking in any establishment that sells food. Therefore, smoking is still allowed in most bars (if they don't serve food) but in no restaurants. As far as airports and public buildings, I think that's been in effect for a few more years than the restaurant law, but I don't know the specifics. If Disney has stricter rules than those, I'm not aware, but those are the miniumums they have to abide by. HTH!

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
Seems like a silly thing that I was worried about - here, my trip is over 3 months away and I'm worried if I'll be able to light up. Addiction - horrible. But, just wanted to say thanks again. It's also helpful to know that I'm not the only one.

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
The smoking policy changed at WDW in January 2000 right before I started my College Progam there. That is when they set aside the designated smoking areas inside the park. They stressed to us in our training that we had to confront people who were smoking outside the designated area, which was not always a pleasant task.
I am not sure if it is still the case, but I know for a while even after the change in 2000, you could still smoke at the clubs at PI. I think now the rule may be that only some of the clubs allow smoking and I think you can smoke at Jellyrolls at the Boardwalk but I am not sure. Just check the maps, Jen, to find the designated areas. Have a great trip! Karen

Re: Smoking Policy in WDW?
I do not smoke, but DH and mom do. I will have to inform them that there are designated areas (I cannot remember if this was the case the last time we went). Just try to remember if you do light up in non-designated areas to keep your cigarette up fairly high, because if you hold it down low it is at children's height & in their excitement of all that is going on they may not see it.
