Are we done with Hurricanes Yet??

First, my heart goes out to all who live in Florida. We sit here and worry about our vacations like they are so important. Sometimes I think we are all a little over the top (me included). Our heart-felt thoughts are with you all.

Having said that, OK, are we done with hurricanes in Florida yet?? We are going in 18 days and I am starting to sweat. I know we may benefit with the parks being empty but it will do us little good if they are underwater.

Hurricane season lasts through October, so there is still a chance. It is very rare to get a big hurricane later in the season. There are a couple of systems moving off the coast of Africa now, so it is very hard to say for 18 days out.

Re: Are we done with Hurricanes Yet??

I can't imagine what the poor people in Florida are going through either. We will be getting the rains tonight and tomorrow but nothing compared to losing your homes etc. I just cannot imagine.

Skwak: We are going I think the same day but we are staying POFQ. I am worried about the weather too. Let's keep our fingers crossed. My son will be celebrating his 5th birthday there.

Re: Are we done with Hurricanes Yet??

We live just north of Ft. Lauderdale so we've seen a lot of the hurricanes go by but have been really lucky everytime and haven't taken any real damage, although it's still been a real pain. After September most hurricanes that form usually hang around in the Gulf of Mexico hitting Texas or Mexico. Florida, in theory, should be safe from this point on, but then again this has been a very unusual hurricane season.

Re: Are we done with Hurricanes Yet??

Hurricane season goes through Nov. 30th. We have less hurricanes late in the season, and they usually form in the Carribean rather than come off the coast of Africa.

It is also rare for Florida to get hit by 4 hurricanes in the same season, so I would say anything is possible.

The oddest thing is I am getting used to dealing with these storms. Down here, its like, "What is the name of the hurricane this weekend?".

Re: Are we done with Hurricanes Yet??

I hope your trip is ok!! Ours was wonderful however, we did have to come home a day and a half early because of Jeanne!!

We were very sad but had a fun time up to that point!!!

Right now Lisa is out there but does not seem to be a threat at this point!! Hope it continues that way!

Re: Are we done with Hurricanes Yet??

Ok, we are going 4 days after the official end of Huricane season, and after this season, let's all hope that is ends before that! I hope, firstly for the sake of all the Floridians, that this weather cuts them a chance to regroup and rebuild and continue with some sence of normality.

Have a safe trip to all heading down there in the near future!
