Extra Magic Hour

I've read in multiple places that on regular entry days, one should arrive 30-45 minutes before the stated entry time. I've followed that advice on 2 trips, and saved much time standing in line.

Now, I'm staying on WDW property and looking forward to Early Entry privileges. So my question...

If the Extra Magic Hour officially starts at 8a.m., what time should my family be standing at the gate? Is there an opening ceremony? A rope drop? A mad rush to the key attractions at each park?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Extra Magic Hour

I am not totally sure about that. EMH is less popualr than regular entry time. What are the dates f your trip. This isn't a peak time so it might not even matter.

Re: Extra Magic Hour

It doesn't really matter. Buses don't start running realistically until about 7-7:15, so you won't be able to get to any of the parks much earlier than 7:30, and it's really not necessary. EMH has certainly gained in popularity, but you won't save a great deal by showing up extraordinaily early. They process you through the gates before the actual rope-drop, so lines wouldn't really be an issue.

As far as a ceremony, my experience has been that there aren't any ceremonies on EMH days.

Re: Extra Magic Hour

Matt is 100% correct. No ceremony, no rush. Just go there for 8am and ride until you drop. Excellent way to save even more time on the big name attractions. When is your trip BTW?

Re: Extra Magic Hour

What are the ceremonies like on non EMH days? Would it be worth it to get my 4 and 2 years olds up for? BTW, we saw a ceremony as we were leaving on the last night of our last trip that made it completely worth it. They waved at Mickey for 20 minutes!
We saw the opening ceremony in 2003 for early entry and it was fine, but there were no characters outside. However, they were inside and we got to see ones that we did not see a lot on other days... Mr. Smee and Captain Hook.

The 2yo wouldn't get it, and the 4yo might, but I have a feeling that the parents would be totally wowed by the rope-drop ceremony at MK.

If you can *safely* get the kids over there by 8:45, then definately do it.

Re: Extra Magic Hour

Sorry if this was already covered, but on the EMH days do they still do the ceremony at the regular time for the rest of the guests or no ceremony at all? We're planning on doing the EMH most days we are there, but I really wanted to see the rope drop at MK too...so if we need to go back on a non-EMH morning we will.
Thanks.

Re: Extra Magic Hour

No, Matt is right, there aren't any ceremonies on EMH days. Think about it. Have a ceremony at 8 and then not let everyone in??? Have a ceremony at 9 when half the guests are already running around inside? It doesn't work and that's why they don't do it on EMH days.

Re: Extra Magic Hour

That makes sense. It's just when I read his post it said,

"No ceremony on non-EMH days. Nothing."

But really it's no ceremony on EMH days. Sorry I've made this so confusing...but I think I've got it now!!!

Re: Extra Magic Hour

Yeah, wait a minute. Now that I've re-read Matt's post that IS confusing. There ARE ceremonies on non-EMH days, but no ceremonies on EMH days. MATT! :)

I have no idea what you're talking about. Go read it. There's nothing confusing about it.

Well, there's nothing confusing about it now that I've edited it.
