I believe the town told him he could not put them up any more due to the number of visitors coming to see the lights and when disney heard that they said to come down and decorate a area of the park. Not 100% sure on that.

However I wanted to say I can't wait to see this they are already putting up the lights for this San Fransico street has already gotten most of the lights to be put up yet and there is a sphere up that on top of it says peace on earth.

On the topic of Christmas Lights at wdw, This past 9 months has been busier then normal looking at Holiday way (the home of the holiday decorations for 9 months of the year) whenever I get back there and I can't wait to see what all the decorations look like this year.

Actually, it's my understanding that Osborne's motivation came from a request from his daughter. After the first year, he wasn't satisfied with the result, so he bought additional property next to his home and worked for nine months on an elablorate Chistmas display. Each year he made it bigger and more elaborate and after only about 3 or 4 years, it was either a town or a county official told him he couldn't do it anymore because of the traffic problems that he had created.

Disney stepped in and asked if they could take the lights off his hands. I can only assume that they paid him more than just a shiny new penny.

Funny thing, this guy sounds a little obsessive-compulsive. He'd fit right in here!
