Osborne Family Lights

Is this a free event or is it something that needs a separate ticket? I would like to see this, so I want to make sure that if I need a ticket I start trying now. It is in MGM correct?

Nikki:

I've never seen it, but it's free. It's in MGM over in the neighborhood area in the back of the park.

I think allearsnet.com has a history of the lights and where they came from.

I'm so excited to see this in December.

I'm very excited to see this too. I love Christmas & ALL of the decorations that go along with it. Christmas lights always feel peaceful & special. Did I hear that it also snows in this section too? I can't wait to see my DD's face when she sees this.

Re: Osborne Family Lights

The Osborne Family lights will be on the three city streets at MGM back lot starting Nov. 24th. If one has not been to MGM this year the houses in the back lot are long gone. There is a new 6,000 seat, I believe, car stunt show based on the one in France. Joe

Re: Osborne Family Lights

Yes, sad to say Residential Street is no more. The Osborne Lights will be in the New York Street area that now includes additional cityscapes, adding Chicago and San Francisco to the already existing New York City skyline. Don't forget to pick up your special "Star" glasses before you tour the lights. The glasses enhance the 3-D effects of some of the displays.

The stunt show Joe is referring to is the "Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show." The original is in Disneyland Paris. Here's a video clip of what you can expect to see when the attraction opens at WDW sometime in the spring of 2005.

Re: Osborne Family Lights

I loved seeing all the lights. The 3D ones were especially entertaining, hehe. I hadn't heard that they took out the houses... I'm kinda sad now. I liked the feeling that you were walking through a neighborhood. But maybe the new set up will be even better! I hope I get to see it sometime. I think the lights are something everyone should see at least once... especially if you're in love with Christmas like I am. :)

Re: Osborne Family Lights

Thank you for the information. I sure did miss them last year during the new construction.

It has been free before.

It usually starts at dusk or around 6:00 P.M.

The snow like stuff came from the buildings and looks so cool at night, as it does down Mainstreet at night during MVMCP. It's really sorta like soap suds but it looks like it is snowing and and it evaporates on the ground.

The 3D glasses are cool, too. They work great for all fireworks, too. Two years ago they had angels hidden in the 3-D glasses that seem to dance when watching the different bright light. Another year they used snow flakes in the 3-D glasses. I wonder what they will use this year?

It will be diferent this year, I liked walking through the residential street! But I'm sure it will still be as spectacular, if not better knowing Disney!

Re: Osborne Family Lights

No, I haven't heard a thing. My fear is that after no lights last year, the AP preview will be allowed to quietly fade away just like the passholder lounges.

The Osborne Lights are awesome!

I'm really going to miss the residential street, especially seeing the home of the Golden Girls. I LOVE those old broads!

Re: Osborne Family Lights

The Osborne's are a (wealthy) family, the dad started to specailly decorate the outside of the home for his DD. Each year he added onto the lights he used, so much so that the neighbors began to complain. Long story short, finally got to the point where I guess he even realized it was over the top. He decided to share his XMAS celebration with others and donated (or sold?) his exhibits to WDW. You can get a much better history by going to allearsnet.com.
