Dinosaur; Quite possibly the most scary ride at WDW
Dinosaur. It's a great ride! I know we all love it (nod your heads and just pretend you agree for just a few minutes...). But I have some personal opinions on why I think it's the most frightening ride at WDW.
It's so dark! You can't see anything until you're right next to it. There's the perception that there's TONS of open space around you while you're going through the dark, cool, sometimes misty jungle. I'm sorta scared of the dark. Especially open spaces in the dark! The ride is also really bouncy. When you add dark, open spaces + bouncy + cold + dinosaurs that threaten to eat you I think that adds up to being a little scared. "Why isn't the Tower of Terror scary?" you ask? Well... I guess it's because the Twilight Zone doesn't scare me. Plus, while ToT has some dark, open spaces I don't feel as though I'm hanging out into them where there's going to be a dinosaur coming by to eat my baby toes... I know for a fact that Rod Sterling isn't going to jump out of nowhere and eat me... but the carnatour might! So, do you have any reasons to disagree? Are you afraid a doll on IASW will eat you? I hear Br'er Fox gets pretty hungry sometimes. Alien Encounter? Nah! I know Skippy is there to protect me! (if S.I.R. ever brings him back from his indefinately suspended transport...)

Scary yes, but for little kids!

) I will agree that it is scary for most people, and all kids. I have a daughter who was 4 on our last trip, and went on everything but Rock N Roller Coaster and Alien. She was very scared by Dinosaur, and loved everything else. The time before, I was with my brother in law and his four year old, and we were sitting on the ride in the staging area, and his son was going ballistic. The CM asked several times if "is he OK?", and his father anwered "he is fine". Finally, after the forth time, the CM said, "we can either call Family Services, or you can get off the ride!" Needless to say, they missed the ride. Quote:

Yes!
Actually I do find Dinosaur scary. My worst favorite part is when they take your picture (when the T-rex pops up) that just scares me!
I still like riding Dinosaur though!Just because it is scary doesn't mean you can't have fun! |

I can see why some might find Dinosaur scary, but I didn't think it was at all. I enjoyed the ride very much, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't scary. I think Space Mountain is probably scary because every time I get on there and the ride is going in the pitch black, I'm scared that if I dare raise my hands or try and sit a little bit higher I'll get decapitated by a beam or something. I'm not sure how high the beams are above the cars, and I don't care to find out that way.

Dinosaur was a great ride! I enjoyed the ride and watching the people in the car.
Scary ride? I'd have to vote for Alien Encounter. When I rode it (well sat through it), it was late and I was hopped up on caffine :) When I was little I remember how scary the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. |

Ok...I'm scared of anything that is "Sudden" (Balloon popping, gun going off, Jack in the Box, or even opening a can of biscuits :( LOL) So, since I'm going to probably be riding Alien and Dinosaur alone (not going to chance taking my daughter on these), will I be jumping at every turn?

HEY now wait a minute leave my fox alone, he wouldn't hurt a flea (maybe a rabbit...but he's gotta eat right) but he wouldn't harm you or anyone you know. HMPF
Anyway John... you so know that we're going on Dinosaur and I'm gonna laugh when the Dino's come to eat you... :D :angel

Anyone Have any Dinosaur Pics?
Do any of you have any Dinosaur pictures or video. The only thing I've seen on tv about it is dinosaurs popping out. I sort of want to know what to expect when I ride it. OR...is that what I should expect? *grins*

I think this site should give you a good idea. I don't think it is overly scary. You ride in the car, and it moves around on it's own chassis, as well as on a track, so it feels like you are doing stuff that you really aren't doing. They actually have calmed it down some and changed the ride sequence so that it is not as rough. They also lowered the height restrictions a couple of years ago. There are some dinousaurs that pop out, and chase you, but it is quite a fun ride. It is somewhat dark, and loud, so I think may be too much for someone under the age of 6 or so. You can also see pictures from around Animal Kingdom here. |

Okay, I'll be honest... It doesn't really scare me. It's just sorta freaky now and then if you're not paying attention to what's going on around you. For instance, when Dr. Seeker (is that his name?) is yelling "computer evasive action! Right! Left! Right! Left!" and you go the opposite direction of what he yells... Or in the final scene with the big dino that just appears. If you're not paying attention, it might catch you off guard.
The building is also dark and cold... sort of adds to the freakyness... I'd have to honestly say it's more of a slightly intense ride than terrifying...
