Oh most defiately lol! I live in WI and this is our first winter here.. so I am sure I will be glad to shed some of the below zero temps for a while lol..
I too agree that the smaller crowds are the way to go, especially since this is our first time I really want to be able to "absorb the magic" you know? Take our time and not worry about insane crowds lol..

I have the unofficial guide from 04, and I think I've worn it out lol.. Im thinking of going the route of picking my fav rides from each park and then taking it easy at the rest.
I am so so so excited. I think I am more excited than my 9 year old lol
Any suggestions on getting the characters? I want to get as many signatures as I can. 27 years old going on 10 lol

Thanks again all of you! You all are super!
I would highly recomend updating to the '05 version. It is soooo much better, and has some great new info. Welcome to DC!!!!

I just have to echo so many other people here. I went back in 2002 in January. I live here, so it seemed a little too cool to swim at night, but definitely not during the day. I packed warm clothes for all of us, and I ended up having to buy my children something different to wear because they were so hot!
The crowds were excellent. We were at MK on a Saturday (busiest day) and we WALKED right on most rides...longest wait was for it's a small world, and that won't be an issue for you because it's closed at the moment...
We went back the next year in March and it was SOOOOO busy.
I'll only go in Jan. from now on!!!

Re: First trip EVER in Jan and need lots of advice :)

Welcome to DC! I've been here a month and was welcomed right away. I found this site two days after we decided to take this trip and not only has eveyone here helped me with planning my trip, but they helped me decided to swich from Christmas week when it's jam packed to the second week in January when the crowds are smaller and we can enjoy our vacation more. I'm so grateful for that. It's also so great to have a place to talk about the trip when all your non-DC friends and family are SICK of hearing about "my trip to Disney in January"

My one suggestion to you is to go through some of the trip reports on this forum. I've found them a great source for ideas.

Again, welcome. I look forward to reading your posts!

Jen

Re: First trip EVER in Jan and need lots of advice :)

MulanKaye, welcome. This is a great site and I know that you'll enjoy it here as I have (being a relative newbie myself). My partner and I went in early January of '04. It was a beautiful time to be there. The weather during the day is wonderful (mid-70's when we were there) and though we did not swim we certainly could have.

For meeting characters at MK, try Mickey's Toontown. The Judge's tent is a great place to meet and greet your faves. BTW, don't be embarrassed. I'm 45 and still act like a kid with the Disney characters. That's what they're there for. MK especially makes being a kid again ok. Have a great time!!!! I remember my first trip and it was pure magic! I know yours will be too. Oh, just a quick thought. While daytimes are usually comfortable, bring a jacket or sweater for the evenings. They can get kind of chilly. Enjoy!

Hi, welcome to DC! We are going this January too. We will be there 1/16 through 1/24. I too highly recommend using the all ears website. They have so much info. We knew where we wanted to eat and the kids could go through the menus and pretty much have an idea of what they wanted. It really helped the budget to have an idea of how much each meal would run us. The people here are fantastic and so eager to give information. I hope you have a great time.

Re: First trip EVER in Jan and need lots of advice :)

January in my humble opinion is the best time to go. I went last year around the 4th for a few days and it was great....it was warm enough to wear short sleeve t-shirts at the parks all four days....and at night it was warm enough to swim. that may have been a random flordia warm spurt but who knows. the crowds are minimal, espically the later in january that you go. dont expect to breeze on every ride but the longest wait was for splash mountain ( and i personally think that this ride is worth missing if you have too) and it was about a 45 min wait....also the resort rates drop shortly after new years so youll get great rates too! i havent stayed at pop yet, but i am in dec. and i will let you know. but all of the values are great anyways i think
