Hey I had a crazy idea?
Has dc ever thought have having a great big convention or basically a trip to WDW...I mean think about it, a bunch and I do mean a bunch of disney freaks running around "the house of mouse"...why it would be a dream come true. We would all know the best places to eat at, the best rides to go on, what hidden mickeys to look out for, and well...we would have a swell time. I know it is a crazy idea...but you know what the Disney company says, "if you can dream it, you can do it!" ![]()

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
I am totally on the same wave length as you are. I was just reading a thread - "Mini Mickey" I think - when ya'll were talking about a DC guide and I got to thinking - that would be wonderful!
Years ago when I was doing weight watchers, I was very involved with the online forum. We had a "mini" convention - about 40 of us - in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was great. It was put together by a few of the members, WW did not get involved. We planned it 18 months in advance so that all that wanted to attend had time to save. We had a few members from europe even come! Jen

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
Baloo - you should keep a running list of interested members - set a very tenative date - say a year and a half - and get as much info as you can about planning a convention.
I planned a high school reunion once - harder than a wedding - but I'm sure a cinch compared to what I think you should undertake Oh, Mickey....are you listening to this Jen

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
Hi everyone,
Check out the thread for Mousefest 2004. This very similar to what your looking for. There will be different meets hosted by different authors and web people. Hidden Mickey hunts and more. We will be there this Dec for the Mousefest. Although it will be more than us DC'ers, there will be alot of common ground.

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
Disney has a special department that just handles conferences and conventions. They can set up just about anything you want - from dinners on the Indiana Jones stage to a hospitality room in one of the resorts. It all depends on what you want to spend!! The best way to start something like this is to get a rough head count so that you know what you're dealing with. Once there is a rough estimate, you can then contact Disney and see what they can do. The more "off season" it is, the more they can do of course!
(Can you tell I used to work for Guest Relations?!) You can also set up a "grassroots" get together that isn't affiliated with Disney, but just happens to be there!! Either way it's fun - and alot of work!! Count me in either way!! ![]() |

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
sounds great, I think you can count Chastmastr and I in. I'll even help with planning it. I plan all of our trips. Give us enough time to make sure we have the leave and the money, though.

Papa Bear, I am in. This is it. We'll ask all the ones that are coming, but not writing the new "DC Guide", to chip in $10.00, that'll pay for the writers' trip. Comp it so to speak.
Yes, that sounds good. As I said before: "I am in" ![]()

I'm a new DCer, but time and money permitting I'd be there!!!
One of my scrapbooking groups does these type of get-togethers about once a year at an already occuring scrapbook convention...I've yet to be able to go to one, but they always have a blast!

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
The best way to do it is to tag along with the Mousefest groups. There are meets for everyone on the Disney internet community and then each website usually sets up their own mini-meets during the week. The reason it makes sense to do this is because it's such a large group, they offer great discounts on room rates and already have some special events set up.
Check out this year's schedule and see the dates for next year's meet: http://www.allearsnet.com/btp/mousefest.htm

Re: Hey I had a crazy idea?
Yes, DC has a meet-and-greet, it is usually at the same time as Mousefest. I haven't seen anyone organizing it for this year. It usually includes a few PS's, and maybe a group outing. Everyone has their own way of having fun, and we all know how us Disney nuts like to do it our own way.
