I can practically smell it
The scent of Main Street. I am so looking forward to our trip that I can smell it.
All the books say it and some of the WDW veterans' trip itinerarys show it that you don't visit the MK on your first full day there. I have to say, MK is most important to me and since we have it planned for the first and last day of our 7 days there, I don't think we're making a mistake. No questions here, just thinking out loud. ![]()

Re: I can practically smell it
My not-so-expert but tried-and-true advice is just to avoid MK on Saturdays and holidays. That's not for any reason other than I tend to enjoy myself more if there are lighter crowds. But you know what? I would trade wherever I am on any Saturday for being right in the middle of Main Street USA any time! That said, just use all the shortcuts -- FPs, take the train around instead of fighting the crowds, go early and stay late, etc., and you will have no trouble! Have fun! Wish I were there with you!

Re: I can practically smell it
Dana and llama????? What???? But I am SO LONELY and SO DESERVING! Plus, Dana already has a trip planned.... my calendar is blank!!! OK, I am calling Dana and llama and I am going to bribe them to give up that seat in your suitcase, and I am going to hop in the duffel myself, no matter what the cost or how cramped the suitcase might be. And I promise to babysit while you go out to dinner one night (if you have kids!), and I will serve you breakfast in bed and even hold your hand on any rides that scare you! OK, except ToT, which I have never been able to get on! If we get our picture taken with Mickey, you can have the spot right next to him... So how's that?
Geez, I crack myself up...

MissDisney, the babysitting part might get you a spot in my brand spanking new suitcase. But really, it has to be alright with the other two. So go ahead and bribe away...

Re: I can practically smell it
I think the reasoning behind that advice is that once your kids go to MK, they won't enjoy the other parks as much or will want to go back to MK rather than go to say, Epcot. Mk is definitely my families favorite, and we always spend the most time there.

Re: I can practically smell it
It's your vacation! Do what you & your family likes. We are spending a part of 3, maybe 4, of our 6 days at the MK. And yes, it will be our first park!

Re: I can practically smell it
i forgot about the smells..........ah........i think a lot of the "guidebooks" say that you should go your last day bc it builds up anticipation and once youve done all the other parks you won't get worn out as easily at MK.....but I think thats a load of hooey...bookends is how i like to do it to..

Re: I can practically smell it
Oh absolutely all you posters up there. I think the oldfashioned "sites" like the buildings, the costumes of the CMs the music -only work today because of the smells.
And cinderbella, bookends it is!!!! I am almost doing the single digit dance. my feet are slowly starting to get into possition. I have an hour to go ---and I still have to keep the secret. I am going to burst.

Re: I can practically smell it
We ALWAYS begin our trips at the MK...it's the most magical of the parks and it sets the mood and excitement for the entire trip. We then end each trip at MK, as we are leaving we stand at the train station and say good bye to the castle and start planning our next trip.

Re: I can practically smell it
I am doing MK on my first day and we wouldnt have it any other way. I've never been there but it does seem like the perfect thing to get our trip started...
