Fun for Teens

Hi: I am taking my 15 yr old daughter at the end of Sept. (She has already been about 7 times before) I can not find any great teen tours or teen activities for her to do. There used to be a special behind the scenes tour where you learned to do the dance moves with the cast members in showsand parades at the MK but I can't find that. (My daughter has 11 yrs of dance behind her.) Seems like they have clubs and fun stuff for the kids to do and tours for the adults, but nothing for teens.

I guess she will just have to hang out with Mom. :hmmm

If you can think of anything she might like to do let me know. I am surprised to see that no one has thought of a supervised "teen" club for dancing etc at night. Smallworld

Let's see... I visited when I was about that age. Even though I don't know of any tours or clubs specifically for her, maybe she would like some free time at Downtown Disney. I particularly like exploring DD on my own. I think she will enjoy the Virgin Megastore and some of the cool shopping. Have you seen the huge World of Disney store? Plus, there are coffee shops and the awesome Ghirardelli's.:D and Disney Quest. Good luck!

Teen Ideas

What about Wide World of Sports? I think they do supervised activities. Don't know about dance but they do a lot of team sports etc.
Keys to the Kingdom is also pretty good from what I have heard. It is a look behind the scenes of MK. I know a lot of other people in DC have done this so maybe they can tell you a bit more.

That reminds me...They do have a teens only club on the Disney Cruise Line. I dropped by and it looks like lots of fun. Sort of a coffee shop, internet cafe atmosphere with lots of planned activities.

I hadn't thought of the Sports thing; that might be something to check into. The Keys to the Kingdom would be the only tour she is "eligible" for since she is 15, however, most of it would be "old news" to us since we have been so many times. The only part that we haven't seen would be the underground corridors. Hmmm.

Keep those ideas coming. I read somewhere that the DJ's in some of the clubs at the boarwalk play outside for families sometimes in the early evening. Believe me, this kid loves music!!!

I guess when the groups of teens travel there with school and church groups, the group itself provides the extra entertainment at night. Smallworld

Hey smallworld, welcome to disneycentral! Im a teenager (15) so i might be able to give you some advice. Disney doesnt really have that many activities for teenagers, so its pretty much up to them to make the fun. Are you and her the only ones going? If theres another teen going maybe you could let them walk around by themselves. I dont know how you would feel leting your daughter walk around by herself, thats why I suggest someone goes with her. You could use walkie talkies, that way you can keep track of her. It will give her time to explore the parks at her own pace, and do the rides she wants to do. Once I went to blizzard beach with my church youth group and while I was by myself in line for one of the rides I meet a teenager from south africa. We spent the rest of the day together. Maybe your daughter will meet other teens like I did. About the tour, I thought you had to be 16 to take the keys to the kingdom tour? Is that right? So even though i cant recomend any activities for your daughter, there are some suggestions that will make the trip cooler for her. If you have anymore question, feel free to ask!
Joe:)

Joe: Thanks for the first hand experience! It will be just the two of us this time; her Dad will be in a converence. It will be ok with just the two of us; it's just more fun of course with someone your own age. Either next year or the following she will be returning with her high school choral group so she will have fun with people her own age then.

I was just trying to think of things she might like to do. I am not sure she would want to just walk around by herself, but if she meets up with some other people that would be ok. She has a cell phone.

Thanks again for the advice. I might think of something else to ask you. Smallworld

I would recommend not sending a teen off on their own. Not because of safety issues or any concerns of causing trouble, but because being alone at WDW can be depressing. Even if it's just for a little while. You see famlies, couples, groups, and then realize you're by yourself. I did that for a while in June and I'll never do it again. :(

Michael: I have a question. Well two really.

What is BlastII shockwave and what does your avatar mean? Just curious about both. :) Smallworld

No disrespect to Michael, but I disagree. Spending time alone at WDW (any part of WDW) is wonderful and refreshing! Somehow, I manage to get some alone time every visit, even if it is just for a cup of coffee or an early morning stroll.

I believe that you have to be 16 in order to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour but I might be mistaken (it's a "thing" Disney does...they don't want to traumatize little kids by having them see Mickey without his head on :) )

I agree with Trish, some time alone can be refreshing. I like to just sit and relax while watching people. It is rewarding watching the face of a child seeing something for the first time, or another couple enjoying the 'world' together. I have met some interesting people just sitting like that. And you don't have to ride alone, there is almost always another 'one' to ride with.:)

Welcome to disneycentral WDW Freak 53! You'll love it here! DisneyCentral prides itself on its great friendly members, you'll fit right in! and Walking around disney is relaxing by yourself, I would rather walk around the resorts by myself though.

I spent three days touring the park on my own when I was 16. I rather enjoyed it because I'm fairly outgoing and met new people in every queue - on two days, I ended up hanging around for the rest of the day with some new found friends. In addition, I've always been a Disney fan (kind of like jwdj4life) and got to experience WDW in a reflective and observant way. Saw more in those 3 days than on any other trip.

However, this represents a great time to get some mom/daughter time. Go with the flow, and maybe EPCOT's not the place to go. MGM might be the park to start at, especially with a trip on TZTOT and RnR to show just how cool Mom is. One good day at MGM will lead to more in the other parks.

Have a good one
