Icon7 Power of Positive Thinking

OK guys, I steadfastly REFUSE to allow nasty people (who are ugly on the inside) to ruin any aspect of our trip to Disney. But I can't do it alone.

I have an idea.

I haven't seen the "Who's going to Disney" thread updated lately, so I can't be sure of exactly who's going down over the next few weeks (Hey DisneyGuy, what's up with that???) or how many. But I know there's quite a few.

This is about the nicest and well-meaning group that I've ever been associated with. None of us are perfect and we do bicker a little once in a while (no Stooges, you're NOT the only ones! ), but all in all, there's a lotta love here.

So, here's my idea. While I've never seen the movie "Pay It Forward" (was that the name of the movie, or just the concept?), the idea is a good one.

Each day, when you're down there, commit at least one random act of kindness. If you see someone that looks confused, offer to help. Smile at someone who's obviously frustrated. Something along those lines.

While I'm a big believer in the notion that in many ways, people s*** (alternately: inhale), I also believe in the goodness of people and sometimes, folks just need a gentle reminder.

Not only is it Disney, it's the Christmas season.

And, if people come back with great TRs, then we can make this a standing order for anyone that goes down: in order to maintain your DC membership in good standing, you are required to commit random acts of kindness while in the World. (obviously, this would be unofficial )

So, who's with me?

I haven't had anyone posting to give me any new dates in over a week. I do need to get rid of November.

That's a super idea. I may not be going down during the Christmas season - but I can definitely do random acts of kindness in Feb.

:c)

Re: Power of Positive Thinking

Hey, need a helpful tool to show some kindness? Here's a link:

http://tagrel.com/APP/CMCards.shtml

I love this website. You customize and print your own "thank you" cards to pass out to CM's (or I guess nice guests). They're awesome, and I can't wait to hand these out to those extra special people on our vacation.

Re: Power of Positive Thinking

Merlin, I was way ahead of ya! On Thanksgiving Day, when I entered EPCOT I said to the Cast Members "Thanks for working the holiday for us!" They were surprised, almost shocked and said "what a nice thing to say..."

Re: Power of Positive Thinking

Way ahead of you as well Matt. The day after we returned home I wrote a letter to WDW thanking them for making our trip so special, what with all the attention paid to us.
I am a big believer in "taking names" and was able to make a comment about every CM we had dealings with at our resort. Today the guy that runs the Port Orleans Resorts called me and we talked for about 20 minutes.
During that phone call I mentioned, by the way, that we need a villain character meal and he laughed and said that may be possible.

We rented a wheelchair for one of our boys on the last day there and as we were leaving the park we noticed an elderly lady having trouble walking. We handed her our wheelchair and got a great big "thank you".

We are big believers in random acts of kindness, it makes us feel so good.

Re: Power of Positive Thinking

I'm so glad I started this thread. And I'm doubly glad that this isn't an original idea!

To all of you readers (non posters) I truly hope that you too can take this idea to heart. This type of behavior ALWAYS comes back to you.

Dopey, THANKS for mentioning the Villian meal. Perhaps mentioning to CMs as often as possible might be more effective than a petition with 300 signatures.

I'd like to open this thread up to allow people to talk about their random acts of kindness. I'm not suggesting this to allow people to brag, but maybe we can all get some ideas.

I'm so happy right now.

PS. The philosopher Kant would say that this is all part of a typically human ulterior-motive thing where we aren't ACTUALLY being selfless, but being selfish because the expectation is to get more back than you put in. But we won't have a philosophy lesson today.

Re: Power of Positive Thinking

Be sure to look for any CM who might be getting grouchy, too... they put up with a lot during the holidays, and they might be the ones that need a big "Thank You" the most! A little "warm fuzzy" might be the very thing they need to turn a frown upside down! Sounds like a greeting card, but it is true!
