Epcot Rope Drop?

Who has had experience at the Epcot rope drop. I would like to see this just to see it. Is it worth it to go to Epcot just to see the rope drop one morning and how early should we go to get a good view? thanks

Re: Epcot Rope Drop?

We experianced it a few years ago. It was nice, but nothing I would rush back to see again. The one cool thing that they did was released a bunch of doves that flew around the Epcot ball before flying off to wherever they had to go. That was a nice touch.

Looks like you'll be at WDW about a week before us. It is getting closer! Do you remember what time you got to Epcot?

Oh that's cool - I didn't realize you were going in Feb as well! We'll be there until the 20th (leaving early that morning) so our trips will probably overlap! I know, it is gettting close - I can't wait!!

I think when we went Epcot opened at 9, so we got there about a little after 8 and they did the rope drop at about 8:55. We weren't in the front row to see everything, but like I said the main thing was the music and doves, so we got to see and hear almost everything! Oh yeah, they also had a family up in the front of the rope to "welcome" everyone into the park. I wonder how one goes about getting selected for something like that?

We were there in mid November and caught the opening by pure coincidence and I have to agree with the other poster that it was basically nothing. There were a few guys on those segways keeping people behind the rope, and then the red double decker bus with a bunch of characters showed up. The bus barely came to a stop, made a u-turn and disappeard, the rope was dropped and that was that.

This is what we havwe always experienced, as well... but the show is not why we go to rope drop... We go because you can go stright to TT (go extremely fast and don't stumble -- there is a stampede!), ride once, get a FP, then go stright to M:S. Next, ride TT once more, then come out and get immediately back in line to use you FP... That way, the park has been only open about half an hour, but you already ridden Test Track three times and Mission: Space once! Fabulous!!! Be sure to go to the rope at the far left -- you can cut through Innoventions, or you can swing around by MouseGear to get to the rides...

Re: Epcot Rope Drop?

We got detained at the Animal Kingdom entrance last year while trying to make our PS at Breakfastosaurus. The CMs simply would not allow anyone to enter the park until after the opening ceremony. This on an EE day as hotel guests with a PS prior to public park opening.

A little secret we learned at AK - if you go in through Rainforest Cafe, you can usually get into the park before everyone else. Even if they let you in at the same time, you are still further ahead of everyone else, so you will get to the rides first!

Re: Epcot Rope Drop?

Every time we've gone to AK, we've started the day at Breakfastosaurus. Is Rainforest even open for breakfast?

That is so funny. You got that down to a science. I am writing that down for the next trip. Specially the tip about not stumbling!!!

Yes, Rainforest is open for breakfast! And it's actually really good (try the Tonga Toast - Yummy if you have a sweet tooth like me! ) I think a lot of people don't even consider Rainforest for breakfast b/c every time we have gone, we have pretty much had the place to ourselves! Everyone is lining up outside while we have a nice breakfast and we still manage to get in before everyone else!

Re: Epcot Rope Drop?

I think that Disney should put a little more thought into the Epcot rope-drop. It's really difficult to hear what the CMs are saying unless you're within the first 6 or 7 rows of people at the rope.

IMO, the ONLY rope-drop worth seeing is the MK, which is DEFINATELY worth seeing.

The Epcot rope-drop last about 4 minutes, while the cermony at MK is nearly 15.
