How Far in advance do you plan?

I'm feeling guilty about going tomorrow, so I wanted to get everyone in the spirit of planning.

So, how far in advance do you generally plan your trip? Days? Weeks? Months? Years?

Re: How Far in advance do you plan?

I start planning my next trip as soon as we get home from a trip. That means I plan a trip for about 12 months. I really get into the planning at about 6 months.

Typically, we plan about a year out, though we pretty much have out major trips planned out for years. Every once and a while, we just go, but that is rare.

It depends on the mood - for DS's third birthday trip we planned for just over a year. For this weekend I decided about 2 or 3 weeks ago...

Re: How Far in advance do you plan?

The overall concept is set perhaps a year out although it's pretty much a given we're going to be in Orlando in October for Halloween and our anniversary. My resort choice is made that far out, but booking happens much much later, often in September. The resort choices might be made now for the next 3 years, Poly, GF, Boardwalk. The actual planning happens a month out with PSs being made around the same time as booking the room/package. But I guess I'm never not thinking about the next trip. Any trips other than Otober are going to be pretty much on the fly. I think I'll be booking Disneyland in June in the next few weeks. I don't want to be making substitutes for that trip.

Re: How Far in advance do you plan?

Well, I normally like to have everything planned out down to the rides we would like to ride that day.

But - my husbands work schedule dictates when we go. And this is usually only a week's notice.

So - I plan all the details and when he tells me its time - I hurry and try to make it work.

It is SO stressful

Now, in Oct. for MNSSHP, my husband will have his vacation time rolled around again, so I am planning a big blow out - and I've already started that.

:c)

Re: How Far in advance do you plan?

We started planning last month for next Sept. A couple days into it I got anxious and said let's see if there is anything open in Jan. So now my 10 month wait is just 6 weeks. That's the great thing about the vacation club. Your room is paid for and you just need to decide when to go.

Re: How Far in advance do you plan?

Erin, why don't you create a boilerplate planner and plug in the fine points at the last minute. By now, I'm sure you know what places you want to eat, the shows, and everything else. Create dummy plans for generic days in parks and go from there. I'm attaching one of my tools. Feel free to change times or add and subtract times so it fits on one printed page.

Re: How Far in advance do you plan?

Typically a year out. However, I must admit that despite the fact that we are going twice in 2005, I have already begun preliminary discussions on 2006. I am a sick Goofy...
