We have been buying Disney Dollars at our local Disney store as a way of saving spending money for our upcoming trip in March. I have one question...
Is there a place in WDW to change any unused Disney Dollars back into cash before you leave? I don't want to come home with unused Disney Dollars!!

I don't think there is. If any place the best places would be at the parks, or at Guest Services at your resort.

I think you can change them back to regular money at guest services in the parks.

You will typically encounter some resistance in the selling back of Disney Dollars because they would rather you spend them in the park. My suggestion would be to lower your expected spending some and then any excess money you spend over how many Disney Dollars you have could just be cash.

Another suggestion would be to just use some of the Disney Dollars to pay off your hotel account since you will most likely have more charges on that than you would Disney Dollars.

Or you can stuff the unused ones in an envelope and mark it "DISNEY FUND" and start saving for you NEXT trip!!

But if you insist on selling them back,don't they have to take them back?

You need your receipt I think. I save disney dollars for my trips like you do. Here's how I do it. I spend the DD first. I only use cash for tips etc until they are gone...then I move onto cash. That way I am certain I will not come home with any unused ones.

I think Dana is right, you will need a receipt to get any cash back. We just keep extra Disney Dollars for our next trip.

I still don't understand why they would give a person such grief. I mean,it's as good as cash in WDW,so someone else would be willing to buy them!!!

If you are concerned about 'cashing in' your Disney dollars, why buy them in the first place? Are they available at a discount?

We buy them because it is an easy and effective way for us to save our spending money. For instance, I have an extra $100 in the bank so I go buy Disney Dollars to put away for the trip. If I just put a $100 bill in an envelope, something will come up and we'll spend it, then we end up scraping together spending money at the last money. Once it's in Disney Dollars, it's untouchable, and meant only for vacation. That is really the only reason we do it. Probably a matter of will power, if nothing else. Plus some family members gave us Disney Dollars for Christmas since they knew we were going.

We have gotten 2 different answers from CM's since I posted the question yesterday. The manager at the local Disney Store said that they can't cash them in. However, when my husband called Disney directly, the CM put him on hold and went to check. When she came back she said that they could be exchanged for cash. Sooo...we're just gonna hope she was right!

Room is already paid for, so we can't use them towards that, but I do like the idea of saving them for the next trip! Or we can always use them at the Disney Store. Needless to say, whatever we decide or are able to do, Disney will somehow get the money in the end. Don't they always???

Wanna know a neat tip?
If you have a disney visa- take your cash that you would plan on spending and purchase disney dollars with your charge card prior to your closing statement. Then you get more reward dollars for the dollars you purchased and at the same time you can pay your card with the cash you were going to bring.
As far as cashing them back- well I have no clue - Im bringing my rewards card and disney dollars to spend at the park and the cash to spend on the boat.

When this has been discussed before the idea of fraud came up. It would be rare but what if someone made Disney Dollars and continued to turn them in for cash. Rare but it could happen and I am sure Disney wants some protection.
