ECV from non-Disney companies

I know this belongs on the Disability forum, but as there's no activity over there, I thought I'd post here and then it can be "moved" so a message remains here so people know about it and am I rambling or what??

Anyway, thinking of maybe getting an ECV from one of those other places rather than renting one each day at the parks so we don't have to worry about availability when we park hop. (Parents can't walk for long periods of time, so take turns riding.) A couple of questions for people who have done this before (Tink?):

1. Who's good to go with -- who will pick up and drop off at the resort, is reliable, has good equipment, and isn't too expensive. (Randys maybe???)

2. How hard is to fold these things up into the trunk of a car (we'll be renting a car)? How heavy are they?? Should I just admit defeat now, wimp that I am?

3. Is it safe to leave a non-Disney ECV parked somewhere for extended periods of time? Sometimes we'd park in one area and do several of the rides there and then return. Or when dining at a restaurant, leave it outside. So that's leaving it for periods of about an hour + or - .

4. Here's the biggie that's confused me -- I get how you maneuver about the parks and rides in ECVs since that's the same as when you rent one from Disney. Don't have to worry about getting on and off buses as we'll have a car. I've seen the ramp they have for getting on and off the monorail cars. BUT what I'm really confused about is how do you get from your car way out in Dopey 37 or whever to the park??? Normally we'd either 1) be in Disney transportation which lets you off at the gate or 2) park the rental car in the lot and take the parking lot tram. So how do you get the ECV from your trunk to the ticket turnstyle at the park??? This one has got me really confused!

5. Oh, and one I just thought of now -- the train at MK. I know wheelchairs fold up to fit on it. What about ECVs? Do you have to leave them behind at the station?

Re: ECV from non-Disney companies

We got one for MIL from an outside company.
1. We used Walkers, they delivered and were quick to respond when we had a problem.

2.We fit ours in the trunk of a Ford Focus, but be sure to tell them what kind of car you will be fitting it in. DH did all the lifting and assembling.

3. never had a problem leaving them anywhere.

4. The first time we parked as normal and had to walk the entire way. The CM told us to notify the parking attendant next time and we would be able to park closer if available. (we didn't have a Handicap permit with us). We did and it got us closer 2 out of 4 times.

5. I think the train has a special place for them, but not sure.
