Animal Kingdom Lodge or Fort Wilderness Cabin?

Hi Everyone!!

We will be going to Disney in December. We have our reservations for CBR. I was going to wait for Disney to call me, but I got anxious and called them yesterday.
What she offered me was Animal Kingdom Savannah view, for $20.00 more per night or Fort Wilderness (not sure wilderness home or cabin) for $16.00 more per night. We LOVE to camp, but i'm not sure if I want to at Disney? Any suggestions? I had kind of wanted Polynesian but she didn't offer it, I guess I should have asked?
Any opinions would be great!
(myself, husband and 4 year old DD are going on this trip)
Thanks again!

There are pluses to both of them. The nice thing about the cabins is that you any your husband will have a seperate bedroom, your DD can sleep in the family room. There is also a full kitchen, so you can save some additional money by cooking some meals. Fort Wilderness is a fun resort, with a lot of stuff to do for little kids. They have a petting zoo as well. The cabins aren't like camping, they are just like miniature homes inside. Nicely appointed.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is going to be hard to pass up. With a savannah view, you will be able to wake up with animals right outside your window. The pool is much better, and overall, the resort is much nicer, though there isn't as much to do for little kids, outside the pool and the animals.

If it was me, I would go for the AKL. It is a beautiful resort, and I love the restaurants there. I would go ahead and call back and see what other options you may have. It wouldn't hurt, you may get lucky.

Hey laurengold! If I were you, I would pay the $20 extra for the Animal Kingdom Lodge! If you havent seen it yet, let me tell you that it is BEAUTIFUL!! Its disneys newest deluxe resort. IMHO with the situation your in, I think you would get more bang for your buck with the AKL. You could go camping anytime, but where else could you wake up and see an african savannah outside your window! Camping is fun i have to admit. The cabins are bigger then a normal room, and you could save money buy making your own meals...but who wants to COOK on vacation?? lol, thats one thing my mom leaves behind! Time for total relaxation and pamperment!

For that rate, I would go with AKL. I hear it is absolutely beautiful. Just look at the pictures on wdwig.com Deb's site. They are awesome.

Thanks everyone!!!
I'm really leaning towards AKL but my husband really wants Fort Wilderness. Maybe I'll just tell him they were booked when I called back;) I'm very excited about the Savannah view. Does anyone know what kinds of pools (theme?) they have at either resort?

Thanks again!!
Lauren

I'll do you one better!

Fort Wilderness Photos

As far as I know, the pool at Fort Wilderness isn't much. The pool at AKL is wonderful. There are even viewing areas of the savannahs rigth from pool side.

I would go for the AKL!! It's amazing from all the thing I have read and seen! And for only 20.00 more your getting all the added perks for the Deluxe Resorts! I think you will really enjoy it! And if your already wondering if you want to "camp" then I wouldn't do it and go for the AKL, really what would be worse then going and then saying, OH I wish we would have done the other!

Just my thoughts!

Lisa :)

Thank you all so much!!!
Mickey, thanks for the links to the pictures, thats what helped my husband, when he saw the FW pools, he had been there before as a child, but didn't remember the pool until he saw it!!!!

Lauren, that is great. Let's just hope that after three days at AKL, you will be willing to leave. Polynesian is a nice alternative though, you will enjoy both.

Mickey-
Dont say that!!! Thats my thought also, but I really do think that that's the best for us, so we can stay at the Christmas Party late. My DD is a party girl!! and I don't want to have to worry about her bed time (not that she has one at Disney:D ) but it only makes mom and dads trip a little more pleasant if she is not exhausted.
I can't wait!!! I wish I could put my trip countdown in but I think i'm totally illiterate when it comes to that, I tried and tried....So December 8th here we come:D

After getting back from a week at the FW cabins...I'm not going to say anymore.

My next trip is going to be at the AK Lodge. But we just had a GREAT time at FW (got back about 5 hours ago)!

We stayed in the AKL in Feb. and it was GREAT!!! You will never be sorry. It is much like the WL but with a different theme. Great food. The next time we go, not this time, we would like to try Poly. It's an older resort but looks nice. We go there for breakfast. JUST 3 MORE DAYS.
