What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

I was wondering if anyone could warn me about any rides that will be just terrifying to a 7 yr old. She's afraid of scary sounds, but she can't wait to go on HM. She has the Disney racing game so she's excited to see the rides which are on her game. Also, if there are certain rides we should stear clear of, is there something called Parent Switch or similar to that at DW. Thanks everyone for any information you can give me on this.;)

A 7 year-old you say?

Of course, this is just my advice, and of course, the final decision is left up to you, the parent who knows the kid :)

Unless your daughter likes the dark and loud noises avoid Dinosaur. It's a little scary even for bigger people. It does involve a lot of darkness, some strobe lights, a LOT of bumps, and even a realistic dinosaur that looks like it's chasing your jeep...

Is your daughter into thrill rides? Tower of Terror at MGM is all freefall. It's also kinda high in the air. If you do choose to ride it, when the queue splits in two in the basement go to the right. The view of the ground is obstructed a bit more by the "Hollywood Tower Hotel" sign on the front.

Rock'n Roller Coaster is very fast and is one of the most thrilling rides at WDW. There are no sudden drops or anything like that, just loud (but good!) music and 3 or 4 inversions.

Space Mountain should be okay for your little one. Most younger folks I see getting off the ride are smiling from ear to ear and back. :)

As for a parent swap thing? Yes. There is a Baby Swap. Don't let the name fool you, it can actually be used for any age person who doesn't want to ride. The way it works is one person rides (with one guest with them) while the other "grown up" waits off the ride. The riding party gets a ticket to let the other "grown up" go through the FASTPASS line with the same other person who rode with the first grown-up while the little one waits with the other grown-up...

Geeze... I hope that made sense! If it didn't, feel free to drop me a private message or an e-mail... I'm sure somebody else will come along to explain it better though!

Good luck with planning the rest of your trip!

Hmm, depends on the kid, really.

Well, we have a six year old, and a five year old, and they totally differ. The only ride I would suggest that you avoid is Alien Encounter. I personally think it is totally funny, but too intense for little kids. My six year old hates Tower of Terror, but my five year old loves it. Definitely worth a try, most kids love it. Rock 'N' Roller Coaster may be too much, and their height restriction is pretty high, so you might not have a choice. The only other thing I can think of is Dinosaur. It get's pretty intense. Everything else is pretty self explanitory. If she likes space mountain, she will like Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain.

We always use parent switch. Just take the whole family up to the line, ask the person measuring heights if you can switch, they will give you a fast pass, and when your group comes out, you walk on with one of the kids who wants to go again. My kids love it because they get to ride the fun rides twice as many times as I do.

Oh, and be sure to take the family on the Kilamanjaro Safaris as soon as possible. The park usually opens at 7 or 8, and you can get in a couple minutes early. Run, don't walk, to Kilamanjaro Safari, and ride it twice. Animals are everywhere, and it isn't too crowded until about an hour after the park opens. This is one morning you don't want to sleep in.

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

Ok are you ready for this...do not, I repeat do not take them on "It's a small world." I mean just look at those dolls...they are so creepy...like Chucky almost. I mean one moment they are singing a repetive song and then WHAM!! ...THEY are following you home like they were hitchhiking ghosts or something...I even heard one of the dolls...I think from the Ireland scene start singing...instead of the usual song..."The Macarena"...yes folks...the macarena...it was so scary...

Pay no attention to deranged Irish man who just spoke...he is suffering from Disneyitis right now and just wants to go back real so to WDW...sorry for any injuries we have allowed to occur...of course take your kids on small world...especially little girls..it is one big barbie show...lol

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

My DS is 8 and he really isn't afraid of much.

You don't have to worry about Alien Encounter as it is now closed and being replaced by Stitches Escape.

Does your child like Roller Coasters or Elevators?? If not, do not take them on Tower of Terror, Rockin Rollercoaster or Space Mountain.

As stated previously, Dinosaur can get pretty intense for a young child. Unfortunately it was being refurbished when we went last so DS did not get to go on it.

There are a lot of rides which are dark and have scary sounds but if she makes it through Haunted Mansion without a problem, you should be ok for pretty much anything.

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

We just got back and my seven year old is not the bravest but he did every ride he was tall enough for even at Universal except for ToT because he is afraid of heights and is convinced you will see the height on that one! He did dinosaur last year and was a little scared but was ok!

I usually say try it once if you do not like it you do not have to go again. And 99.9% of the time both my 5yo and 7yo loved the ride we went on. By the way he LOVED RNRC.

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

I agree with everyone else. The only ride that is questionable is Dinosaur. By son who was five at the time rode it and there were times he hid his face and covered his ears. He did not want to ride it again and said maybe when he is older.

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

My 6yr old DD loved all the rides including Tower of Terror, Dinosaur, Mission space, but the one thing that freeeeked her out was, It's a bug's life. We had to leave after a couple of mins. The cast members are ready for this though and quickly escorted us to the exit with no fuss. Much to Isabelles dissapointment she wasn't tall enough for Rock n' R C.

Loved Baloo85's response about Its a Small World.
It is totally creepy! My family is split on this Me and my oldest DS get annoyed by it, it seems to never end. My DH and other 2 DS's count it as a must see when we go. They want to go on it as many times as they can!

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

Goofette, take note: The only ride a 7-year-old should avaoid at all costs is the TEACUPS!!! And you know why? Because an adult has to go with them! And though children are immune, adults are completely vulnerable to the Teacups' whirling, nausea-inducing, "spin me faster, Dad" frenzy and the adult will be rendered completely unable to stay upright for the rest of the day!!!

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

I agree with Mickey, our 6 year goes on evrything, but we never let him go on Alien Encounter - just to creepy for him (i loved it and will miss it) His favorite is mission Space and TOT.

Our rule of thumb - try everything once and go from there. But we would never "drag" him on anything. I hate when I see that.Den

Instead of Beware of hitchiking ghosts...the real disney warning should be that of beware of the never ending song..."It's a small world." Dum Dum Dum Duuum! Oooo...so creepy.

Re: What rides Not to take 7 yr old on?

The only attraction we ever had a problem with was Honey I shrunk the Audiance. Our DD was 5 at the time and it scared the living daylights out of her. She is now 14 and will still not go to it!

The others she knew when she was ready and we never pushed her to try before then. Funny story, the first year that RnR was open we made it as far as sitting in the car and then she bailed out, no probs. She waited till the next year to try it and as she got off she insisted on getting right back on. We did four back-to-back rides before I gave out and told her to find something else!

Enjoy,
-harry

My DS used to keep the 3-D glasses off when he was little. It made it less frightening for him that way.
