Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

We have yet to visit Animal Kingdom. No idea why actually. It just seems like we never get there. Next weekend we are going to WDW. We are thinking we will get to Orlando about 1pm. We were thinking of going to Animal Kingdom for a few hours (they are only open until 5pm). So my question is, is there enough to see or do with a 3 year old for those hours? We were thinking that we would do the safari, see the parade, and watch Lion King show. I dont really know what else is there for a 3 yr old (I think he will get spooked at the Bug's Life movie)

Any info is appreciated

Re: Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

I would think that a 3 year old would love AK! (not having kids, I don't know for sure). There are tons of animals to see on the Pangani Trail and Maharaja Jungle Trek. There used to be a Pocahontas show that was geared toward kids, but I am not sure it is there anymore. Rafiki's Planet watch has a petting zoo. I don't think you would have any problem finding something a 3 year old would like.

Yes. We love Animal Kingdom and our DD was 2 when she first went. Lots to do and see. Especially if you are only going for a couple of hours.
Hit the Rainforest Cafe there, too. My kids love the atmosphere.

Re: Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

What you said is good.

What about the Animal Trails, a 3 year old will love those. Also, the train and Rafiki's Planet Watch is good for kids and the Boneyard and Triceratops Spin (a Dumbo Clone).

Very nice parade btw. Bug's Life is very iffy. Our 3 year old loved it, but I don't think he is the typical 3 year old.

You are right....Love the parade.
And our DD liked It's tough to be a bug, too. But she's a tough girl!

Dont skip it's tough to be a bug.............way to much fun to miss. If you think he may get spooked set him on your lap.............for all those who have seen this show, you know why. FYI, My DD, 2 1/2 at the time just loved it..........

Re: Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

Make sure to visit Camp Mickey Minnie....a great opportunity for character interaction!

In my humble opinion, I would skip Bug's Life this time, or you try it first before taking the 3 yr old on it. It scares me (o.k., so I have a little arachnaphobia! ), but it also scares my DStepS (almost 8), who loves Dinosaur, RNRC, ToT, etc. He would ride Dinosaur all day, but won't even get near a Bug's Life!

Re: Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

IMHO AK is a great park for a samll child. Much more so than Epcot.
The trails are so nice. Kids love animals and like the others said, don't miss It's tough to be a bug. My guys were very small when they saw it the first time and loved it.
The AK has turned out to be one of our favorite parks.

Don't forget the boneyard playground, triceratops spin and maybe, the raft ride (if he's tall enough).

We even like AK when it's raining! It gives you that extra "rain forest" feel.

Re: Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

OKAY, NO ONE THROW ANYTHING AT ME!!!

DS love AK at age 3. But if you only have 4 hours, that's a lot of money to spend on a "full day" park.

A great 1/2 day attraction is Gatorland. You've got animals. A train to ride. Some interesting shows. A waterpark with fountains to run through. It's been 15 months since we went, and my kids still talk about it.

...oh, for some reason Gatorland does not have a petting zoo. Go figure?

Re: Animal Kingdom w/ 3 yr old

To be perfectly honest with you, I think that AK and MK have the most to offer a child that age. MGM has a few things for kids that small as does Epcot, but for over all experience, I think AK and MK are the best. The animals alone are entertainment to the little ones.

I agree, but AK needs a full day of your time.

Make sure to watch Festival of the Lion King!
