Haunted Mansion Secret

It's funny the things you suddenly remember 2 months after a trip.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has always assumed the "stretch" room is an elevator to a lower level in the Haunted Mansion.

On our last trip, there was glitch. After the room stretched, the wrong wall opened, and we stepped back into the lobby. The CM broke character and urged us back into the room. She pressed a different button and the other wall leading to the Doom Buggies opened up as the lobby wall closed again.

So, the floor of the stretch room does not go down. The ceiling goes up.

That is true for WDW but at DL it really is an elevator.

Haha, I bet that was tough for the CM! If I worked in the HM I would want to be in constant character...but that would make it really difficult!

And you're right...in the WDW version, the ceiling goes up...in the DLR version, it actually is an elevator that moves down. But you seriously cannot tell the difference!!

I didn't think it did move.

BTW: The Hydrolators at The Living Seas don't move either.

The reason that it does not move at WDW is because in Florida that area is below sea level and they were afraid of flooding during certain times of the year and they could not go down like that to make it an elevator like it was at DL. I read that in an articl that compares all the HMs at the different parks. It told why the stretching rooms were different at those two parks. I found that very interesting.

I always knew about the Hydrolators, but DD didn't. Of course, when she found out about it last trip, she was extremely disappointed! (She was 17 when she foundout -- I guess ever since she had been small, she believed every bit of WDW Magic she encountered. It didn't bother me at first when she found out, but when I saw how disappointed she was, it reminded me of when she found out about you-know-who in December

The Living Seas was a little more obvious to me (as an adult) that it wasn't moving...but if I hadn't known previously about the HM I'd have thought it went down too...Disney does have such awesome effects!!!!

Thanks a lot Disneyguy! spoil the magic for me like that...and all this time I was thrilled to be sent down to Sea Base Alpha!

Now all I need to hear is that the Haunted Mansion isn't Haunted or That Abe isn't making hourly appearances at the Hall of Presidents.

Sorry.... I actually thought until this past trip that you went down, because the hydrolator has an "Otis" plate in it, and Otis makes elevators.

BTW: Abe makes appearances at the Hall of Presidents on the half hour.
