Super Soap Weekend?

Just discovered that Super Soap Weekend coincides with when I'm planning my trip. For someone else, fine, but for me.... eeuw. So...how popular an event is this? Anyone know what it does to MGM Studios, and how it affects the other parks? Does this mean the following week may be more crowded? It's certainly not too late for me to reschedule.... <g>

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

I guess being the resident soap freak and SSW attendee here I should answer this. Super Soap Weekend is one of the most attended events at Disney. Especially considering it's just 1 weekend. Not spread out like Star Wars weekends are.

MGM turns into a soap frenzy. Especially this year with it being Super Soap Weekend's 10th Anniversary. It's expected to be bigger and better than ever. Expect hotels to be filled and MGM to be packed wall to wall with people. The following week is not as bad as most people leave by Tuesday. Most people don't show up until Thursday night or Friday. Other parks are not bad at all. At MGM you'll encounter them building the stage infront of the Hat for the week before and also them putting up the signs and stuff. During that weekend some things are closed. There is no fast passes because they use those for the autographs. Lines are short or non existant for most rides, but the crowds are hard for some people to deal with. You often hear people complaining because they didn't realize that it was like that or didn't know that weekend was occuring. I guess that's everything. It's crazy but if you can avoid MGM you'll be fine. If you have any other questions post or PM me!

Ryan

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

The weekend as a whole is very fan friendly and very fun. There is a lot of interaction with the stars.

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Metalfan/Ryan, thanks for the answers! That helps a lot- avoiding MGM won't be a problem. (Now, if it was back in the day and Josh Duhamel was still on AMC I might have a different perspective... but I digress....)

Now my question is this: We weren't planning to arrive until Nov. 12th- that's Saturday afternoon. Is getting the kind of room we want going to be next to impossible, since event crowds will be checking in before that? King-sized bed and no-smoking room are deal-breakers for us. As it says everywhere about reservations, make all the requests you want, but they're not making any promises.

Thanks again.

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

As for getting your room it depends on a lot of factors. Especially where you stay. I wouldn't expect to get it, but there is still that chance you could.

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

Here is a summary of the weekend. It's long.

You get to the park by bus around 7 am and by car anywhere after 6 am. You line up outside. They let you go in at 8 am and you following the signs to the places to get the fast passes for the show you want. You wait in that line and can get 1 per ticket. Then go back to the back or to a different line. GH and AMC go the fastest. You can usually get 2 tickets per person. They are usually all gone by about 10 am. After that the fun starts! Autograph sessions go on throughout the day and the stars are so nice and accomodating. You can take pictures, they'll sign whatever you want. Talk to you. It's awesome. They have motorcades and star conversations. They usually do this by show. So they'll have 5 people from AMC go on cars down the main rd to the stage and then they take questions from the crowd and stuff. Last year it was hosted by Alexa Havins (Babe, AMC) and most likely will be again. Those were held on Sunday. Saturday the stage is used for live tapings of Soap talk with Ty treadway and Lisa Rinna). It's like the motorcade only taped for TV. They have different things around the park. Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. they have 2 soap stars and if you get the top score you get to play the game with them. It's a lot of fun and they pick pairs that are a lot of fun. There are also things where you can have a chance to maybe act out a scene with some of the guys from the show. Wish they'd do this with some of the women! lol. It's just a blast. ABC and Disney go ALL OUT for this weekend and that's why it's so popular. There are other things I cant really explain but they are just as fun. Each night they have an "All Star Jam Concert" where the stars that sing perform. Befire this is the Main Motorcade with all the stars. Easily one of the highlights.

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

yeah...she tivos them...and watches them back to back...but quickly though...she basically knows what is going on for the most part and what will happen to who...and yes, for those of you still wondering...she is still pretty upset about Bianca leaving.

Re: Super Soap Weekend?

I am still destroyed over Eden leaving. But there is word she might be regretting it a bit right now. To be expected. Her boyfriend is in NY and she loves "Bianca" and AMC. I don't think she'll last too long in Califormia. I think she'll be back before the end of the year. I think anyone who enjoys ABC soap operas should get to SSW one year. It's definitely worth the time and money.
