To go back to WDW or not to go...that is the ???

Our situation: We are seasonal pass holders. Our passes expire in November. We bought a house and LONG story short, the taxes on the house are more then doubling this November. Dh and I have been struggling to save the cash up for the short-fall we are going to have to pay (about $4500 or so). Because our mortgage payment is going to increase aside from the shortage this may have been the last time for awhile we can afford seasonal passes. Thus, we went to WDW a few weekends ago thinking it could be the last trip for awhile due to finances. Unexpectedly, my brother is taking his family June 2nd to disney and wanted us to meet them there. We would only go for maybe two nights at the most. So I am going back and forth....should we go or stick to our guns and not spend the money. When we bought the house we knew it needed a lot of updating and we havent done much since we are trying to deal with the tax problem first. We were thinking what we would have spent for a weekend in WDW we could use that same cash to buy a couple of new fans or things for the house which we have put off.

We are hoping to be able to go to WDW in Sept, or the end of Oct before the passes expire and the weather is cooler also. By then we should know what we are facing as far as taxes and increases starting in 2006. Sooooo...what would you do...pass on the June trip or say the heck with it and go???

Such decisions!!!

What a perfect world it would be if we didn't have to worry about money! You've got quite alot on your plate now - double taxes - wow! As much as I love WDW and would do just about anything to get there, if it was me, I'd pass on the June trip. Two days doesn't seem like much, but it's amazing the amount of money you can spend in that time. So, I would save the money, get the taxes and mortgage situation sorted out a bit more and look forward to one last fling in Oct. Myself - I don't know how much I would enjoy a 2 day trip, if I was worrying about finances.

I agree. I can't have a good time if I am worried about money. Also, 2 days isn't a very long. You could save up and spend more time in October. I am sorry to hear that your taxes are doubling. That is crazy.

Re: To go back to WDW or not to go...that is the ???

It has always been long weekends at WDW for us. We have always used our savings to either put down on a home, a car, etc. We have not had an elaborate vacation since our honeymoon in 1995 (yes...we are long overdue). So only having 2 or 3 days at WDW is the norm for us. Last trip we nickeled and dimed. I think we took $300 cash to cover food, and misc stuff and we came home with a little leftover. We had prepaid the hotel, tolls, and had separate money aside for the gas. We have the disney card and are saving them up to one day have a stay at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian "on disney". I would love to have a vacation of 5-7 days at WDW...SOMEDAY!!

As of now, we think we may pass on the June trip and keep our fingers crossed that the tax amount isnt more then we are perdicting. Maybe October will be the next WDW trip.

I am also in full agreement that you should probably wait until the fall, as you are planning. WDW is not going anywhere. Once the taxes are squared away your trip will be a little less worrying and a lot more enjoyment.

Don't go when you can't afford it. instead, why don't you save your change and anything else you save on, like for instance when you save money using coupons at the store. Save the savings in your "mouse money can". Pretty soon, much sooner than you can imagine, you'll have your vacation paid for or close to it.
As much as I want to go, I don't want to worry about the finances.

My thoughts exactly. I would save some rainy day money for a Fall trip and spend time doing the updating and stuff that you have been needing to do before the tax hike. Pass on the June trip.

CaraMia, as long as you have a fall trip planned to look forward to, I'd say pass on the summer trip. You'll be able to enjoy your Fall trip that much more!!
