Does dressing like your favorite character get you any special attention?

Howdy!

My daughter and I were just watching the WDW vacation video and she saw a little girl dressed up like Cinderella. Now she wants to dress up like Jesse from Toy Story 2.

Does anyone know or has anyone had any experience with having a child dressed up as a special character in the parks? Do they get any "special" attention...you know...does it draw the real characters in?

Just wonderin if I need to pack the costume :dazed

In January, my daughter was Princess Aurora one day, Cinderella another, and Jessie a third. Yes, your child gets special attention, especially to the point of anoyance for other siblings. :D

it also makes for some awesome character pictures. Yes, pack the costumes. :D

(unfortunately, the Evil Queen saw my daughter dressed up as Princess Aurora and she freaked out - felt so bad for her)

I saw a lot of little girls at the Breakfast at the Castle dressed up in the dresses, but I didn't notice if they got any special attention, I would think they probably would though.

Just wondering how old your daughter is. My daughter and yours have something in common if yours likes Jessie. We just bought the "Jessie" costume from the Disney Outlet store so she could be her for Halloween. She just HAD to be Jessie lol.

Thanks for the info.

Goofette..my daughter is 9. She was Jessie last year for Halloween. My mom has made their costumes every year ( amazingly we were even blessed with an old Star Wars costume that we turned into a very COOL Buzz Lightyear costume for her sister!) Anyhoo... My mom did a GREAT job...got cow print material for the pants and made a yellow vest thing that we tacked onto a white shirt...braided red yarn for the hair and had a red cowgirl hat from when I was little ! WHat a blast... looked better than a store costume...

Now this year I will just have to tack everything onto bigger sized clothes....

Where can we find Jesse to get an autograph??? MGM???:)

Jessie is at Al's Toy Barn at specific times of the day - check your park guide.

Also, just a thought - my daughter was Jessie for Halloween for the last two years. I made fleece chaps instead of pants, and just tied them up over that year's jeans. She still wears them.

The characters at Cindies treats every child special but the characters in the parks treat children dressed in costumes differently. It's like they carry on a specific conversation with them. Even not having a costume, if your child wears 101 dalmatian shirt or carries a stuffed dog, Cruella will make a BIG deal over that child, usually calling it to the attention of the other characters with her.

I just got back yesterday and seen many little girls dressed as their favorite Disney princess. It got some attention by cast memebers and more in restaurants. If you DD or DS has character gear definately let them wear it. I wanted to walk around dressed like the Snow Queen but my DD forbade me to do so...lol I should have surprised her.

To the skeptics who see WDW commercials of characters skipping around the park with guests and say, "That'll never happen"...think again. One of our favorite family memories was dressing our then six year old daughter in her Alice in Wonderland dress and visiting the park. Tweedledee pulled Mera out of the line and frolicked around the rose garden with her for about 20 minutes! Other tourists took photos of the two of them, we got lots of great shots ourselves. It remains one of our daughter's favorite memories!:)

Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like that will be a favorite memory of yours forever. I always wondered if the characters did pay any special attention to children dressed up, so I'm glad to know that. I wonder at which age is too old to have them dress up? I'd kinda like some attention myself lol ;) Just kidding :D But for DD she's 8 and by next visit she'll be turning 9...is that too old?

Your never too old!! I have a tattoo of Mickey Mouse on my leg and when a cast member saw this made a huge deal..we were in line for the living sea and he just started yelling to everyone to come check it out and moved us to the head of the line...I was 22 at the time!

Re: Does dressing like your favorite character get you any special attention?

Thanks for all the info. DDs are just thrilled that they have princess costumes to wear when we get to the park and I am sure they will love the extra attention. I am just wondering how well they will do with wearing the costume for a long time (I plan on taking extra clothes). Thanks again :) I think I am more excited than the girls :)

We were lucky and ran into Jesse at Pizza Planet. We were able to pose for pix and get her autograph. It was great!

Re: Does dressing like your favorite character get you any special attention?

My DD wore her cinderella dress to breakfast in August, but I changed her back into a shorts outfit afterwards. It was just to hot to walk around the park and be comfortable in the costume.
