Icon5 Carrying a backpack

I'm going to be carrying a backpack around the parks. It's mesh and won't be too full so it should be fairly manageable. But I'm wondering if I'll have any trouble riding with it. Will I be able to hold it on my lap or squished at my side on the rides? And for the wet rides, I planned on either putting it under my rain poncho or stuffing it in a garage bag that I'll bring with me. Do you think that will work?

Re: Carrying a backpack

I would opt to stick it in a locker for the wet rides...like your shoes. It should be fine on the attractions however. The only one I have ever had trouble with in RnR with a pack back. I am just sure to bring my waist pack on the days I go to MGM so this isn't an issue. I really thing the waist packs work out better, but I understand what happens in the parks and know that us mom's end up being everyone's pack mule. I have been known to get a locker for the day when I don't intend to take a midday break. I store a change of clothes and anything I would nornally carry like a hairbrush etc. I go to the locker when I need stuff and enjoy the hands-free touring.

Re: Carrying a backpack

Sounds like a good plan. We always have a backpack and haven't had any trouble with it.

Re: Carrying a backpack

I always have my camera backpack with me and have always done everything except Splash Mount. On Kali River I used the center holder and nothing got wet but I would not do this again. I also will not take my camera equip on anymore rough rides like Space Mnt. or a ride like Mission Space because I am worried about the G-force affecting my equipment. But, in general I have had my backpack with me on most rides.

Re: Carrying a backpack

You shouldn't have a problem with the bag at all, as long as it's not to full. Most rides will have a place for you to put your bag either directly infront of you, or under your seat. If you really don't want to take it on a ride and don't have a locker, you can ask a CM if they could watch it for you, just stick it in a hard to see place near the stand where they operate the ride (this can be good for the wet rides).Only do this of course on the rides where you load and unload at the same station, lol. I'd probably just take the back pack with me though, lol. Wrapping the back pack in a poncho/bag will also work for wet rides.

That so funny! I always ask my kids "What am I? Your pack mule?" They have two small things in their hands, while I'm loaded down with 10 bags balanced on every limb and my head, and they'll say "Mom, can you take this? My hands are full."
It would be nice to travel light. I may have to dig up a waist pack and just store the back pack in a locker. Of course, the backpack I can always unload on my husband. But he would never wear a fanny pack!

Re: Carrying a backpack

I always, always bring one of those drawstring backpacks. I just put it between my feet on the rides. You should be fine with it on almost any ride... your Splash Mtn ideas are great, by the way. If your backpack starts getting heavy, lockers are awesome - we just used one for the first time last trip. You can park hop and get a locker at a new park without paying again. :)

Re: Carrying a backpack

I plan on bringing a backpack next time...I usually have a fanny pack, but a backpack ends up being a lot more convenient when I purchase souvenirs...then I can stick them in the backpack and not have to carry extra sacks around with me.

BTW...I've never had a problem bringing a bag on ANY ride...even RnRC! As long as it's not huge, you can easily squeeze it between the back of your legs on RnRC...loop your leg through one of the straps for extra security.

Just what I was going to say! My DH is the family pack mule. He takes it on everything. There's always something in it we need. (Boy do I miss having a stroller!)

I give my DD a waist pack or the option to carry a back pack. She is usually pretty good about it. If we take the back pack to the parks, she will take turns holding it...if she wants stuff she will...lol

Re: Carrying a backpack

I also carried one of those drawstring backpacks last time and it was great! Very lightweight and it even had a mesh pouch on the front (or back depending on how you put it on).

Where do you all store your tickets/passes during the day? Having to get them out so often for the FP machines is definitely my concern. Last time I kept them in the small zipper on my camera bag since I always had it handy, but this time I'm thinking of one of those lanyard things with the holder on them...what has worked for you??

Perhaps it was just the kind of back pack that I had, but I did have probelms with mine in the harness.

Re: Carrying a backpack

I carry my backpack on every trip. I have never had any trouble with it on rides. On some of the rougher rides I stick one leg through a strap so that it doesn't accidentally jump off the ride!

Re: Carrying a backpack

BF and I both carry an over-the-shoulder/one strap backpack. Ours are Jansport, light weight, and waterproof - we've never had a problem on any ride. Just put a leg through the strap and go. I prefer them to the two-strap backpacks and especially to "fanny packs" - really can't stand those.
