Flower & Garden Festival

I'll be going to the F&GF for the first time this year! I already looked at the disneyworld.com site and it looks like there's a lot of great stuff going on. I just wanted to hear about it from some DCers... anyone been this year? :)

Thanks, I'll look there. :)

I just noticed it only started on 4/15... so I guess I should be asking about previous years...

PrincessJill:
We were there on 4/17 for our Anniversary. It is beautiful. There are
Topiaries of the characters throughout the park. Minnie has a beautiful Butterfly garden and Farmer Mickey's Maze is full of interesting vegetables.
I highly recommend this to any of you out there.

We were there two days before it officially began, and it was really beautiful, even though it wasn't finished yet.

Re: Flower & Garden Festival

We were there for the first time last May and it was absolutely beautiful. When you walk into EPCOT, there is a huge topiary display in front of Spaceship Earth. I noticed most of the topiaries are in the WS. They had a display with the brooms from Fantasia at the entrance to WS, it was beautiful. Snow White was in Germany, Mickey and Minnie were in American Adventure, the Dog Maze was absolutely adorable (Dalmations, Lady and the Tramp and others). France has a perfume scent display too. We had fun with that one. If you are a flower person, you will enjoy it!

They also have demonstrations and stuff like that, but we didn't get to any of it.

Re: Flower & Garden Festival

I was there last year for the festival. It was really amazing what they can do with flowers and plants. I really loved the Belle and Beast display. It even moved! We also saw the Nelson's concert which was really cool. Check to see who is performing while you are there. They change the acts every few days.

Re: Flower & Garden Festival

The time that I went back in 97 we didnt even know about this and we had to ask a CM.. It really was neat seeing all the characters made out of flowers etc. In fact we were in Epcot at UK and I asked asked a CM if they sold the seeds that made the pooh and tigger tree or bush that was outside. She was funny cause at first she didnt know that I was teasing and she was like Oh no Ma'am they dont grow that way etc etc Then she realized I was joking around and started laughing....

Re: Flower & Garden Festival

PJ... the festival is my all-time favorite WDW event! The topiaries are incredible, so plan to take lots of pics! The photos of the topiaries always come out really well!

Also, the rose garden between Future World and World Showcase is fantastic, and there are booths with cool gardening stuff.

And at the pavilions, you will see more plantings and potted plants than usual... really incredible. Be sure to get really close to teh pots in Italy -- they are SURPRISINGLY interesting! Heh heh...

Re: Flower & Garden Festival

DW and I have been to the Flower & Garden Festival twice already this year. We usually go once or twice a week throughout the length of the festival so we can see all the music acts at the Flower Power concerts.

For sheer colorful beauty, there's nothing better in all of WDW. The gardens and topiaries are simply extraordinary, and there are plenty of special things to see like Minnie's Magnificent Butterfly Garden, Farmer Mickey's Maze, the Ultimate Backyard Garden and the Italian Container Gardens. There are also various informative gardening presentations each day that are geared to making your own home garden more beautiful, and on the weekends there are special celebrity guest speakers like Paul James of HGTV.

Each of the Festival's weekends has a theme: this weekend it's Art in the Garden Weekend, followed by Mother's Day Weekend and Photography Weekend, etc.

The Flower Power concerts feature music stars from the '60s and '70s like Paul Revere & the Raiders and The Lovin' Spoonful. The concerts are included free with the price of Epcot admission and there are three performances a night in the America Gardens Theatre.

Make sure you pick up a Flower & Garden Festival Guide when you enter Epcot so you can plan what you want to do.

Re: Flower & Garden Festival

Thanks so much for all the replies, everyone!! I knew it was going to be good, but I didn't know it had all of that. I'm sooo excited about it! I definitely want to see the butterfly garden. And the maze, but I read something that said the maze was for little kids... can big kids do it too?

OK, you got me! Yes, it is a stupid, childish trick. So go ahead.... check out the flowers! No, really... get a little closer! And by the way, you may also see some interesting white statues... check them out, too!
