Birthday conflict question

As most of you are well-aware, in a month I celebrate my birthday at Disney. My ACTUAL birthday is on May 18th, but we go up to Orlando on May 22nd. So since we'll be in Magic Kingdom May 23rd, that's when I'll get my birthday pin. No problem, right?

I also know a lot of people celebrate their birthday the entire time there. Note that I don't need anything special, but I just like the attention (that's why I got me and the youngest daughter GoH badges). Okay so Tuesday we do Epcot. I figure, might as well celebrate there as well. Why not, right?

Now the third day. It will be a week after my birthday. May 25th, Wednesday. THAT is the day we're going to my FAVORITE park, MGM. Keep in mind, this is my FAVORITE park of all of them, hands down. So, wear the birthday pin at my fave park, right? Here's the issue: my younger brother will be turning 28 that day. We're already taking him to Mom's for a late lunch/early dinner as per his request. I know HE couldn't care less about celebrating his birthday with mine since we're a week apart (heck, we're providing the accomodations), but I'm wondering if the CMs frown upon this sort of thing, two members of the same family (even if *I* was adopted, and we look nothing alike) BOTH celebrating their birthday on the same day, given the circumstances...

So what are your thoughts?

Re: Birthday conflict question

Who the heck cares?? I know people who celebrate their birthdays no matter when they go, because they only go once a year and they couldn't make it for their actual birthday! If there's two of you, you'll just get a bigger "Happy Birthday!" from the CMs. Go and have fun -- there's nothing wrong with celebrating YOU at the happiest place on earth! Besides, I'm sure this happens all the time... they're probably used to it. :)

Re: Birthday conflict question

When I went to sci fi diner last year on my b-day, they were making a big deal out of someone's birthday- all the cm's sang to her and she got a free dessert. I mentioned to the waiter that it was also my birthday and he made me show him an ID! I was a little embarassed. He did bring me a freee dessert but no singing CM's. I kind of felt like the ugly stepsister.

Well that's crummy! My mom celebrated her birthday at Sci-Fi last October and wasn't "carded." The whole restaurant sang 'happy birthday' and she got a huge free sundae. I wish they'd standardize their approach to birthdays!

Re: Birthday conflict question

The last time I was in Disney for my bday, I wore my pin the whole trip. A few years ago my friend and I went to celebrate both our birthdays. They're a month apart, but we were going right between the two. All the CM's just gave us both a big happy birthday - some even asked if we were sisters. (and we look nothing alike!!) I think you should both wear your pins if that's what you want to do. If you get a CM that doesn't like it, they're definitely in the minority. Don't even pay them any attention. Move on to the next CM who will give you both the big "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" you deserve. :)

Ok, I'm going to stick my neck out here............Not that I think you were wrong in what you did, but the server probably asked for ID because he felt you thought "hey, free dessert". I think I would have cried being asked for ID.
I don't believe when one is celebrating a birthday, you should do it for more than one day. I understand people with say this is my birthday trip, even though their birthday was two months ago, but just wear the pin one day. I've heard of people buying the bride and groom hats, hoping to get special treatment too. It's just like anything else when too many people abuse the chance to get special treatment, the special treatment will stop.

You missed my point. It really was my birthday. It wasn't even a day off.

sorry, I guess I wasn't clear........What you did was fine. It's when other people "celebrate" for days on end, that will force servers to start being suspicious.

Re: Birthday conflict question

Hey, it's YOUR birthday, celebrate it the way YOU want to celebrate it!! When we went 2 years ago, my DH celebrated the entire trip and that is when he really caught the Disney Magic bug and now can't get enough of it. We spend at least $100 per sit down meal w/characters...what does it hurt to get a little special attention for a trip planned specifically for a birthday?
Last year when we went we celebrated our Twins' birthday and my nieces. They are 2 months apart and we went between their birthdays due to school schedules, and we celebrated my nephews 1/2 birthday since we didn't want him to feel left out and we'll never make it to WDW together as a group in October because of school....so celebrate and make the most of your trip.
The CM's never questioned the 4 kids' birthdays....even the 1/2 birthday that we told them about.
We'll be going to WDW for my DH's birthday again this year (he's so lucky to have a birthday when the kids are out of school) and I'm sure he'll wear his pin more than one day! Enjoy!

Re: Birthday conflict question

Okay thanks everyone. I know some people abuse the birthday thing, and I'm not sure how everyone feels about celebrating for a few days. But I guess the majority is saying since it's my fave park, and I'm going for 3 days, even if my birthday is celebrating his one day, celebrating mine on the third day as well is no big deal. I just was curious how the CMs felt about this sort of thing.

Thanks guys :)

Re: Birthday conflict question

Some on DC know I'm kind of stickler about things like not re-using your resort mug on later trips and etc.

In this case, I don't see a problem. DS had his birthday at WDW in January. He only wore his pin one day, but a birthday pin didn't earn him any special privileges, just some friendly greetings (okay, and one Fast Pass for the entire family and a free cupcake at Chef Mickey's--where we'd just spent $50+ anyway).

I say wear the pin.

BTW, my aunt & uncle have 4 kids. All 4 of their birthdays are on either March 20 or March 21!!!! So it's not that unusual to have different aged siblings share birthdays.

This solidifies it. Thanks Jeff :)

Like I said, I'm not expecting free stuff. Not at all. I'm just happy to be at Disney. I'm an attention whore and just like the attention is all. I know my brother won't care less (and even if he does, too bad, I grew up with him being spoiled since he was the baby so... LOL), so maybe we can "bond" through this.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME *makes notes*
