NO Peter Pan...

From the time my son was 3 or 4 he has been a BIG Peter Pan/Captain Hook/Pirate person. He is now 8 and shares his enthusiasm with his 4 yr old sister. We are going to be at WDW during May 22-26. I was on the computer checking the park hours for that time and guess what... Peter Pan will be down May 22-26. Can you believe it! It said to try Winnie the Pooh as an alternate ride. Our tradition was to always ride Peter Pan first, before we do anything else in the park. So now what should we do? I am just bummed about Peter Pan being down for the count while we are there...

Re: NO Peter Pan...

I know how disappointing that is! This last trip I was going to make myself get on Astro Orbiter for the first time (I'm freaked out by heights!!), and I was really looking forward to it, and sure enough it was in rehab when we got there!!

I know it doesn't make up for not being able to ride PP, but make a point of trying to spot Peter and the gang in the parades or on merchandise. Maybe buy the kids a Peter pin to make up for it.

Re: NO Peter Pan...

His flight might be down, but who needs his ride when you can meet Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and Wendy over by Pirates of the Carribbean?! So even though it's a great ride, rest assured, Peter Pan will still be close by.

Plus he may be in the MGM Parade (not sure; I've only seen the Christmas version).

Re: NO Peter Pan...

DD is also PP fan, and they have directed me to the family magic tour. Have you tried this to get your PP fix.

Re: NO Peter Pan...

PP is my favorite ride! The last two times we have gone, Dumbo was down. My kids were disappointed!

Re: NO Peter Pan...

It is a savanger type hunt(Revolving around Peter Pan and friends) where you go throughout the park doing crazy stuff. We are going to give it a try this year.
Here is the info from Allears. Be sure to read the reviews that is where you get the scoop.

If you do it first, be sure to let me know what you think.

Re: NO Peter Pan...

I know that nothing can make up for PP being down. That is Pete's favorite ride in the world, and we always ride it second after Haunted Mansion. Maybe take an extra day for your vacation?

Re: NO Peter Pan...

EJ, I wished we could take an extra day but we are in the process of building a new house (that is why DH is not coming on this trip) and I really need to be back to pick out stuff. If the need arises. Never built a house before, so this is soo soo new to me.

I don't know if this will help, but it might!
There is a golden figure of Peter Pan flying around the top tower of Cinderella's castle for the 50th anniversary celebration! You can tell your kids that Peter is busy at the castle and can't run his ride! then you can show your children where he is at the castle, and, if possible, get them a peter Pan memento of some sort! I know it doesn't make it all better, but it just may help alleviate the problem a little bit!

Meeting characters can be just as much fun, sometimes even more so, than riding the rides! I have heard a lot of great stories about guests (especially children) meeting characters, from trip reports, and Peter Pan was one of the characters guests enjoyed meeting the most!

I have read a lot about the Family Magic Tour, and it is perhaps the best Magic Kingdom tour to take if you have children with you. It usually involves a Peter Pan-themed plot, such as finding Captain Hook's hook-- which at the end, Peter Pan pops in from out of nowehere with the hook! After that, he usually takes them on Peter Pan's Flight. If there's a really big group on the tour, they often ride it's a small world instead. Usually, Peter Pan appears at the end of the tour, but another character may appear once in a while if Peter is not avaliable, such as Alice or Belle.

Hope this helps!

I thought the whole gang was always by POTC, or at least within the last 2 years. At least they have been reported as having done greets by POTC as long at I have been reading up about this, which has been almost 3 years!

The gang from Peter Pan also appears across from POTC at Disneyland as well, in New Orleans Square.
