Fastpass Discussion

I was just reading a very interesting thread at wdwmagic about fastpass rumors. The fastpass system WDW has now is awesome and it is a great benefit to all the guests of the park. I sure hope they don't take that away from everybody. I know resort guests get perks and I always stay on site myself, but the system works so good right now, should it be changed to add to resort perks? I don't know?

Re: Fastpass Discussion

My husband has always said that FP should be for resort guests only. It would be an enticement for more people to stay on site.

Re: Fastpass Discussion

That perk alone would make me stay onsite every year. It would have definetly made me stay onsight last year.

Re: Fastpass Discussion

It would be a perk but I think it would be kind of a sad manipulation. I feel Disney is better than Universal in that regard.

Re: Fastpass Discussion

I think that Fastpass should remain open for everyone. Regardless of weather or not a person stays on site (which I do enjoy, but I now have a friend who lives in the area, so I can stay with her), they are still paying the same park fee to get in, and I think it would be unfair to limit that to on-property guests only.

Re: Fastpass Discussion

I'm for it. I love the idea.

At least that way the people who whisper and sneer when you are going down the fastpass line will have a legit reson to do so.

It would cause me to stay on site every time as well.

Maybe include Florida residents too, since they don't have a need to stay onsite.

Is this something that they are considering? I haven't heard any rumors to that effect.

Re: Fastpass Discussion

I don't need an excuse to stay on site! But I am conflicted about the fastpass thing. I am going to have to think about this. I always feel like I am cheating when we use fast passes, but I think they are great. I am always shocked by the amount of people who don't use the system.

Re: Fastpass Discussion

Actually, it doesn't sound like a very good thing at all. Not what Walt envisioned-type of thing. It is a common understanding that his vision included everyone getting the same high level of service independent of their means.

But Disney has already applied for a patent to include changes to the current fast pass system. Here's a link to it for those of you who speak legal-ese:
Patent Application

Basically, what the changes they've applied for are these:

Certain guests will be eligible for something called an "Immediate Freebie
FASTPASS."

A "Front of the Line" pass, granting front-of-the-line access for *all*
FASTPASS attractions.

"Television" and "Pre-Arrival FASTPASS" - Guests will be able to select their FASTPASS return times from a list of time windows. They'll use the web, a digital TV, cell phone, or other device (e.g., a kiosk) to make these choices up to several days in advance.

Concurrent FASTPASSes: the ability to hold multiple FASTPASSes
simultaneously.

"Advanced FASTPASS," where a guest will be able "to select a number of
specific attractions and the entertainment center assigns times for each of them and provides the Fastpass tickets to the guest prior to the riding of the first attraction."

Spending per guest at hotels can determine different hierarchies of
access to Fastpass. So the more you're spending on your vacation the higher priority your fastpass can get.

Hotel accommodation in related resorts and environments associated
with the entertainment center are allocated different priorities.

Different levels and hierarchies can be applicable at different
hotels. Thus, more luxurious hotels can have higher priorities. Those at the deluxe resorts will get more percs than those at the values.

Still sound like a good idea now?

Not really. Definitely sets up the "haves" vs the "have nots".

I don't like it. What about those of us who live here, and don't need to stay onsite?

I hope Disney doesn't forget all of us who make day trips!

I don't think it should be so that deluxe resorts get more perks than those at values...
that stinks.

I completely agree. The changes sound extremely unfair, and I hope that Fastpass stays the way it is...possibly with the exception of adding concurrent Fastpasses-that would be convenient.

Maybe it's just in my head, but one thing I like about WDW is the feeling that everyone there with you in the parks is just like you, sharing in an awesome experience at WDW and the fastpass system really makes that evident. There is allready enough exclusive things at the WDW resorts to make those resorts worth it to stay in and that is obvious because people love to stay at WDW resorts. The Fastpass system at WDW has really set it apart from other parks like it.

This is how I feel too. Walt opened Disneyland with a comment about welcoming ALL who come here to have fun. That's part of the magic for me. When I have to stay offsite, I still feel like I am a VIP when I walk through the turnstiles!

Once, we were in line for Spiderman at one of the Universal parks (sorry, I can't remember which one.) And a big group of people came in from a Unviersal Hotel. When they waltzed onto their vehicle after we had been waiting for almost 65 minutes, I felt really angry. I like it much better that once you walk in the gate at WDW, you are all treated as valued guests.
