Silly Question about DINOSAUR

during our last trip, we tried to go on DINOSAUR in AK but the ride was broken down. my question is: is DINOSAUR associated with the movie? if so, i have to see the movie to familiarize myself with the ride. thanks for the help.

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

AFAIK, there's no relation. The ride doesn't need anything to enjoy it.

Some people are really frightened by it. Others (me) think it's kinda lame.

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

Matt you really are my hero. I rode it with my DS when he was 5 and he loved it. I was so wanting to get off the ride at the very end. Not much bothers me, heights, close spaces, etc. but that ride took the cake.

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

Well, there is a tiny relation, but one does not affect the other. Basically the dinos involved are the same type of dinos.

But the dinos in the ride do not talk or follow any elements of the movie and there are no monkeys. The ride should have stayed Countdown to Extinction and not tried to be something it wasn't. The name is very misleding, especially to the younger crowds who do know about Dinosaur the movie.

If you get into the story and suspend reality, the ride is genuinely scary.

If you view them as merely AA's then it is a clever way to cover up few AA's and scenery by having it mostly in the dark with lots of noise, lights, and movement.

I fall into the first catergory. I am in whatever story a Disney attraction places me in from the moment of preshow til the exit of the attraction building.

The ride is AWESOME. PERIOD. I could stand by the place where you view your photos all day long and watch the guests (young and old alike) hide their faces in terror. Not one car will ever go by without someone with dread and screaming.

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

I LOVE THAT RIDE.
I think spider hit the nail right on the head. With every ride I totally get into the story in the queus (sp?) until I get off the rides.

And this from the woman who thinks Splash Mountain's big drop is scarry but great

tragic... you don;t need to have seen the movie to enjoy the ride ---

Believe this: IT IS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING RIDES IN ALL OF WDW, AND YOU WILL RUN RIGHT BACK AROUND AND GET IN LINE TO GO AGAIN!

This is animatronics at its very best, and the vehicle is a blast!

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

Hey, look... this will give you a real idea.

Once, at Universal, we were lookig for a ride -- any ride -- to go on that wasn't broken or had a 2-hour wait. We found a nice queue for a Jurassic dinosaur type ride. We rod eon it, and it was all fine until the last moment, when we dropped about twice the height of Splash Mountain, and much steeper! We hadn't expected it, and it was very upsetting to our kids.

This ride is NOT like that. The "big drop" at the end is not too steep and not too high, so all you have to think about is the themeing at that moment, which is escaping the dinosaurs. It is all efect, and you will love it!

I've been on this four times now and I had no idea the ride drops. I thought it was all simulated motion. Are you sure?

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

You drop a little bit at the very end. This ride is seriously disturbing. I've screamed myself hoarse on it, and I'm sure Rowdy Raider has never seen my face pop up on the photo screen, it's always buried in Pete's shirt I REFUSE to sit on the far right side.

Where's Darth to back me up?

Re: Silly Question about DINOSAUR

Tragic, the ride is set up where you are going back in time but things go arye (spelling??) and your set off course. Very, very dark and jerky but loads of fun! We love that ride and look forward to it everytime. Go early in the morning, or before the park closes, and you can ride it several times with basically no wait.
