What's Up With Marie All Of A Sudden?!
Hey, I love the Aristocats as much as the next Disney fan. Phil Harris is one of my all time favorite voice actors, from Jungle Book to Robin Hood, and the Aristocats is one of the best Disney masterpieces. But all of a sudden out of nowhere, the white kitten Marie from the movie has become a huge deal at Walt Disney World! Every where I walk lately, girls (both young and old) are sporting T-shirts and other clothing with the pampered kitty all over it with catchy phrases and the whole nine yards. Instead of Minnie Mouse Ears, I see Kitten Ears with the hair pulled up into a tiny bow lately. And now it's RUMORED (NOT CERTAIN...ONLY A RUMOR) that Marie will start doing "meet and greets!" Can anyone else explain why WaltDisney World has suddenly gone to the...cats?

Marie has been around for at least ten years in merchandise. She has always been a character of the disney catalog...from pajamas to bathing suits...so I guess they are moving her on to WDW now...

I noticed some Marie stuff last summer at DL, and in merchandise I have seen now and again online and in stores. I just thought it was a girley alternative to Princesses--you know-buy all the princess stuff, then move onto Marie stuff. Got to keep the consumers happy
 But hearing that Disney is stepping up the Marie marketing, I am wondering if the Aristocats has an anniversary soon, and maybe a special edition DVD on the way. Does anyone know? Just my 2c... |

A couple of years ago, my mom bought DD a really cute Birthday Marie. Her bow and collar were the color of the month's birthstone with ajewled heart hanging off the collar. DD loves it and has never even seen aristocats. She just thinks it's a cute kitty.

There may be some competition from Sarafina (the cat in Barbie: Princess and the Pauper) She is a white cat that was hugely popular in merchandise.
DD has a marie stuffed animal, but calls her Sarafina. For awhile she pushed her in her doll stroller and other little girls would call her Sarafina to. So they know about the white cat Sarafina but not the white cat Marie  . Disney may be trying to keep up with that.

Disney direct starting selling Marie items for kids back near christmas. I got my DD the snow globe. Now I see T's, blankets etc with her on it. Got me why she came back, but I like her so cool!
