"hidden" extra's!

I proposed to my wife three years ago. We lived in Orlando at the time. I set up a scavenger hunt of all the specal places we've experienced while dating (all throughout Orlando). The secret clues eventually lead her to me, standing in the Polynesian Resort with a glass slipper with a ring in it. My first intention was to suprise her at the Wedding Pavillion with a proposal over the lake..however, due to a scheduling error by their planner...she was re-directed to a private location. Needless to say, the woman who worked there was very gracious and apologized a million times. She helped me with the last-second planning (literally, last second...my wife was on her last clue and I had just arrived at the pavilion when I got the bad news) The woman who worked there led me to a great "private" location that overlooked the lake. She even hid in the trees and took pictures of the occasion. I got on my knee's, proposed, and we were off to spend the day at the Magic Kingdom. It was the best day of my life.

We had lunch at Cinderella's Castle. They knew of the propsal because I called ahead to find out if they did anything special...all they asked for was our name and reservation..I didn't think twice of it when I made the reservation. WELL...we got the ROYAL TREATMENT...the best seat in the house...complimentary desert..and two champaine glasses (which lay in our china cabinet along with the glass slipper I proposed to my wife with).

I am suprising my wife with a trip to Disney to celebrate our anniversary soon...does anybody know of any extra "hidden" suprises that I can do? I have heard of dinner on the beachfront and a few other things...does anybody know of anything else that you can't find in most tour books?

Thank you.

Brian

Re: "hidden" extra's!

I don't know about anything you can do. But I have a question - how was the scavenger hunt done? I mean, were there clues on paper stuck somewhere? Or did she have to see a CM waiting for her?

Re: "hidden" extra's!

I asked the same question when we were going to stay at one the WDW hotel for our anniversary. They don't have extras unless you pay for them or the resturant is in the mood to cater to you. Needless to say WDW isn't a place I spend an anniversary.

Re: "hidden" extra's!

To answer your question Kippage, I had clues that were attached to notes (well...I elaborated on the notepad with a burnt edge affect and rolled up like with a ribbon) and they had clues written on them (very easy clues) which lead to our first date, our first kiss, ect. ect. The woman who worked at the Wedding Pavillion made up for the miss-hap. She stayed behind at the Pavillion and flagged down my girlfriend and then guided her to where I was waiting for her. It was very cool.

Wow. What a lucky woman! Too bad it wasn't videotaped. It sounds like something you'd see on a TV special! No ideas for the anniversary, I'm sorry, unless you do a scavenger hunt at home that leads her to you waiting for her at the airport. Does she know you're going to WDW for the anniversary?

Re: "hidden" extra's!

what a fab proposal! Really can't think of much to be honest. All I can think of is what my hubby did when he proposed to me at WDW. It was 5 years ago now but you know the theatre in tomorrowland...? Well, he snuck away one morning and said he really needed the bathroom...... but he had actually gone to see the chief CM at the show that was on. He managed to talk the CM into getting me backstage ( he told me there was a private meet and greet with Mickey that only a few people knew about) and I was really none the wiser. Anyways, when we got back there, there was no-one around and I was moaning at him and said he must have been mistaken and we should go or we would be told off! All of a sudden, no kidding, all the dancers from the show and ALL the characters too, came running out and were hugging me and kissing me and twirling me round. I was amazed. When Mickey and Minnie finished twirling me around, there was my hubby, on his knee with the most beautiful ring in a box and he said a lovely little poem to me and popped the question! Of course I said yes and hence to say the screaming/dancing and twirling all began again.

I think most CM are happy to help in any way they can and im sure if you ask the guys on the PS lines they will no doubt be able to suggest something.

Good luck and congrats

Re: "hidden" extra's!

CaptHook1117---I think anything I'd suggest would be an anti-climax after that fabulous proposal. I've been married eight years and I'm still waiting for one! I think I mentioned something like " I think we oughta get married." and DH said something like" Yeah, I guess so, when?" All I can think of is a private fireworks cruise, the horse and carraige ride and maybe some champagne waiting in one of those striped cabana things on the Poly beach. Congrats!!

Re: "hidden" extra's!

What a romantic proposal!

Maybe you could hire a photographer to take candid black and white photos of you and your wife for a few hours while you are there--with out her knowing. You could plan on visiting the place you proposed, or special places in the parks--or even over a romantic dinner or carriage ride. Capture the relaxed, happy couple you seem to be.

Then you could suprise her with an album, or framed collection of your favorite pictures.

Re: "hidden" extra's!

This is a perfect example of why I am the lamest husband on earth. If right of the gate, you sweep her of her feet, give her romantic proposals, expensive surprises, and anniversary trips to WDW, how can you top that? For me, it's easier to sit on the coach, drink a beer, scratch things, burp, and yell at the kids to change the channel on the tv. That way, when I finally do something like change the trash bag in the garbage can, I feel like I'm contributing to the marriage.

Re: "hidden" extra's!

CaptHook - They do a re-hitching ceremony and the Garden Grill at Epcot. Its a bit cheesy but cute and admirable. Mickey is involved as were Chip-n-Dale. I don't think it costs much extra but you get a certificate, exchanging of "Disney" vows and a cake.
My wife loved it and always tells the story. She never saw it coming and it took some research on my part to discover this little nugget of romance in of all places "The Land"!? Its a neat surprise but I think you really out did yourself with the proposal - attempting to top or compare could be costly.

Re: "hidden" extra's!

Not to correct you Laneysdad , but they have stopped the rehitching ceremonies at the Land. My husband and I were lucky enough to get rehitched St. Patrick's day of 2004. Our two daughters got to see this and were dying of embarrssment!! afer we had the character lunch we Got the cake ($10) and the certificate(free) and one of the waiters was our preacher. I giggled through the whole thing. But I read where it was discontinued because of all the non-traditional couples wanting to be married.
