Random Acts of Kindness

OK, I did this in December, and I think it's time for a little more pixie-dust.

On your next trip, go out of your way to commit at least ONE random act of kindness.

I'm very sympathetic to jeannej's concerns about the behavior of certain types of guests. I've been in the service industry before and she's right, some people are AMAZING is terms of how they'll beat you up because the WEATHER is bad.

Anyhoo, while Disney certainly share the blame for rapid expansion and poor training, I think we can help.

Random acts of kindness are contagious. Just like movie where they talk about "paying it forward," just do that. Do something nice, just because. Not because you want something in return, but just because.

It will pay dividends for you and everyone else.

Man... I'm SUCH a Pollyanna sometimes.

I pick up empty water bottles, etc. off the ground or off a table as I pass and throw them away, commenting LOUDLY on how rude and trashy people are, of course, so maybe the two just cancel each other out

I also tried to help a little girl who was walking in circles crying "Mommy!". I asked her if she was lost and a snotty woman ran up and snatched the little girl away roughly saying, "No, she's mine!" Well, maybe you should keep track of your kids, lady!

We try to make a regular habit of giving away FPs if we can't use them.

We actually gave away FPs that someone gave to us, once we realized that we couldn't use them.

What a lovely idea for a thread, MM. I think Disney just naturally brings out the best in some of us. I just "feel" nicer and happier there.

I know one woman who saw some kids who were waiting for the parade at MK and bought them each a bag of popcorn (after checking w/ parent first, of course).

It's one of those "good fairy" things.

My favorite thing to do is to ask people if they want me to take the picture that they are in the middle of doing, so they can be part of it too. People love this!!!

We've been fortunate enough to receive some fast passes, but usually use our own. We will be sure to give any away that we are unable to use though!

I do this too!

I did it a couple of weeks ago in NYC (John's Pizza on 48th off Broadway) for a group from Oklahoma! My DW thought I was flirting

she should no better.

While it is easier to be about yourself it is much more rewarding to be kind to others.

Good idea. I know that when my mother started at WDW as a maid in the Contemporary hotel years ago, I was a lot kinder and more cognizant of how messy I left my room when I stayed in a hotel or motel. When my mother went into the housekeeping office, I was very aware of how I spoke to people who were helping me solve a problem. I just try now to realize that everyone has a bad day, and that I may be speaking to some one's mother, father ot child. Can't say I am always successful, but I try.

My mom now works for Port Orleans Hotel.

I love this idea and can say that I have at least given away our FP tickets when we couldn't use them. It does make you feel warm inside when you do something nice without expecting anything back

We will try and do this in more than one way on our next visit to WDW. Thanks for the gentle reminder

We gave away some FPs back in 2003 that we didn't use, and the reaction we got was priceless! It always feels good to perpetuate the Disney Magic! We look forward to doing more of this when we get to the World!

If you rent a stroller and are leaving at the end of the afternoon, give it to some poor family with kids in tow.

I tried to give away FB to TT in January. No one wanted it, as though I was running a scam.

I carry around little business cards that say "Thanks for sprinking Pixie Dust on our Vacation" to pass out to CM's and others.

I give away Fastpasses we can't use but I have also gotten Fastpasses on our way out of the park just to try to make the day of a guest just getting to the park.

I take extra glow necklaces/bracelets to hand out while we wait for SpectroMagic. I buy 50 bracelets for $8 and try to get rid of all of them by the end of our trip. Now that we are flying I am not sure if I will have room for the necklaces.
