Child Dies On Epcot Ride

Very sad news. Feel bad for the family

Child Dies On Epcot Ride

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A 4-year-old boy on a family vacation died Monday afternoon after he passed out on an Epcot Center ride.

Officials said the accident happened on the Mission: SPACE ride.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on the Mission: SPACE ride, according to Disney officials. The ride simulates a launch into space by exerting g-forces on occupants.

The child reportedly passed out on the ride and paramedics responded. Witnesses reported seeing the child's mother carry him outside to a nearby bench, where paramedics were able to briefly revive him. But the child died on the way to the hospital, according to officials.

Officials shut down the ride for the rest of the day. It's not certain whether it will reopen today. Mission: SPACE opened in October 2003.
The ride has a minimum height requirement of 44 inches. The local sheriff's department said the boy met the height restriction.

The boy was on vacation from Pennsylvania with his family.
Disney released a statement saying, "We are providing support to the family and doing everything we can help them at this time."

Very sad. I just heard about this elsewhere.

I am curious as to what investigations will uncover.

Re: Child Dies On Epcot Ride

This child must have had some underlying medical problem. My DD had a severe asthma attack on this ride so we won't be doing it anymore. The g forces literally took her breath away. I can't imagine that poor family's grief. Taking your kids to WDW is such a wonderful vacation, I can't even fathom what they are going through. Let's all say a little prayer for them right now.

Karliebug, That was my thought as well (about some underlying medical problem).

I feel so bad for the family...

Re: Child Dies On Epcot Ride

That is too sad. Something similar to this happened at Magic mountain a few years back, a woman died on a roller coaster after suffering from some kind of blood clot in the brain.

This is so sad --- and I also think that there was a medical issue that no one new about.

Re: Child Dies On Epcot Ride

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of that little boy. I'm guessing that the boy had some unknown medical condition and unfortunately it had to happen at WDW.

Re: Child Dies On Epcot Ride

There have been a lot of problems with this ride injuring and now killing passengers....Do any of you think it will be replaced?

No. I don't see this as a ride injury first of all. Secondly, look at Big Thunder Mountain in disneyland.

The ride may have been a catalyst, but it sounds like something else was the cause.

Re: Child Dies On Epcot Ride

I certainly hope not, disneyguy. It doesn't seem that the problem is with the ride, but with the people who choose to ride having health problems and they shouldn't be on it in the first place.

I feel so sorry for that little boy's family.
