Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

Will the recent tragedy at Epcot's M:S affect your decision to allow your children to ride certain rides at WDW?

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

Nope. I'm definitely a numbers person....so looking at how many people go through all the rides with the very small amount getting hurt doesn't affect me any.....Bring on the rides!

I'm not a parent.....but that would be my feeling in any situation

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

You had better believe it. My dh was telling me that he felt extremely woozy and lightheaded on the ride, and that if there were some sort of stop or abort button (which there isn't), he would have pressed it for sure. What bugs me is that even if this mother had noticed something wrong (she just thought he was frightened), there would have been absolutely nothing she could have done about it.

No one is going on that ride (if we do go back to WDW). The risk isn't worth it, esp. with so many unknowns.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

The autopsy released yesterday, said there was no trauma to the child. So that means that the ride didn't cause trauma to his body. I think we should all wait on the cause of death to be released before blaming the ride. It could have been multiple other things that caused his death. Maybe he just happened to be on the ride when his death occured.

I agree, but considering how I felt after riding M:S, once was enough for me and my family.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

It is very unfortunate and heartbreaking what happened but it will not change our decision on what rides we will go on. I would consider WDW attractions to be the safest around due to the amount of guests they have and being the top vacation destination in the world.

It is a great ride and people should truely take all warnings into consideration before entering. But then again, you may the healthiest person on earth and still have something go wrong. You just never know.

Dauny lived a few towns over from us and they had mentioned that he was born premature with a few health issues but has since overcome them. You really have to wonder if there was an underlying medical issue that no one was aware of.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

Nope. I go with the numbers, too, and don't feel like anything is unsafe.

I won't be letting my four year old on M:S, but that decision was made long ago and has nothing to do with recent events.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

I rode MS the day after that child passed out on it. While I feel very very sorry for that child's family, I know my body and my limits, and that ride is fine for me.

And let me say that it kind of bugs me that these threads read "Child dies on ride" or "Child dies on MS". The child didn't die until he was en route to the hospital.

I agree. I feel some of the posts on the DC threads, newspaper articles, and television reports have been very bias against Disney. That is why I started this thread. I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the tragedy as see if it affects their decisions.

I don't think I'll ever let the baby ride. I know febrile seizures are supposedly benign, but I don't plan on taking the risk of finding out it's something more on M:S.

I will ride it, though - and I'll let my other children.

I think the results of this boys autopsy is leading to a grand mal seizure.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

I don't blame Disney or the Mother. I personally won't let my child on the ride because he is only about 45 inches tall and he is not the kind of boy that loves to be scared out of him mind. I can't imagine what the family is going through and keep them in my prayers. I think somes things you just can't explaine - it was just his time to go (as sad as that is). I do think Disney will take a lot of heat over it because in a situation like this people take comfort in blaming others and Disney is the obvious easy target. Maybe we should keep the boys family and Disney in our prayers.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

I would have no problem riding the ride again. I also do not have a problem letting my 9 yr old DS ride it. If my son had medical issues of any kind, I would not let him ride it. While the ride is probably too intense for people with medical problems, the elderly, and small children, I don't think it is harmful for a normal, healthy person. That is just my opinion. Many people ride this ride every day with no problems. It is one of my favorite rides. I do think they might want to raise the height requirement though. I think four yrs old is a little young for that intense of a ride.

Re: Will the recent tragedy affect your decisions?

What if the autopsy results show that this boy's being on M:S when he died was just incidental? Will that still affect people's decision on whether to ride M:S again??

I think that is the direction the investigation is going. Otherwise, Disney would never have reopened the ride so soon.
