Disneyland Trip

We are taking our 2 1/2 year old daughter for the first time to Disneyland and California Adventure 11/20-11/22. The plane tickets are in hand, the 3 day park hopper passes have been purchased, but the question is what do we do when we get there? My husband and I both practically grew up at Disneyland, but haven't been there in years. We want to make this trip as special as possible. What thing are absolute must see and must do?

Welcome to DisneyCentral! My suggestion for first thing would be Fantasyland in Disneyland. Really, with three days, you will have time to wander around and see everything. I just love Soarin' over California, though your daughter won't be big enough, and also California Screamin' is a great rollercoaster.

One other thing, there is a great new kids area in California Adventure that features rides for young kids. Also, make sure you take time to see Blast! in the Hyperion theater, you will all love it.

Welcome to DC. Hooray! a Disneyland post!

You won't even recognize the place. We went there last Dec. for the first time since the additions and actually had to ask for walking directions to the park. And that was our 8th trip!:o

Be sure to take advantage of the toddler swap policy so that you both can ride the "big people" rides, or take a grandparent with you.;)

We did spend a lot of time at Fantasyland and Toontown with our then 3 year old.

At California Adv. he really liked the King Triton Carousel and the Superstar Limo ride. I don't think the new kid-friendly area was there when we went, but that sounds like a good toddler area too.

Have fun!!

Basically, your family walks up to the Fast Pass line, and get a baby swap ticket. Then, one of the parents goes on the ride, while the other sits out with the kids. Then, the other parent gets to go in the fast pass line while the other one waits, so you can both ride the big rides, and you both don't have to wait through the line.

This is only available on rides that have a height limit.

It's a new program where if your toddler throws a tantrum, Disney will swap him/her with a happier child for a small fee. :p

Or it might also mean:
If you want to go on some adults-only rides without splitting up, try the "Baby Swap." As soon as you get in line, tell an attendant that you want to use this option. When it's your family's turn, one parent rides while the other stands aside holding the child. When the run is over, the parent who just rode gets off and takes the child, and the other parent hops on.

Some kids might not be too happy standing in line with mommy or daddy and then not going on the ride too, but if you think yours would be OK with it, (sometimes the lines are just as fun as the ride) it beats you both going one at a time and having to go through the line twice.

I'm pretty sure the second one is correct... I think.

;)

JUST FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

BLAST! is no longer playing in the Hyperion theater. The last show was about 2 months ago. My family loved this show (even the kids). We went to the last showing & it was very emotional. They are replacing it with a Broadway type musical of "Aladdin".

Also, SUPERSTAR LIMO is no longer running. They have it on the refurbishment list, but CM's tell me that it is closed for good. I thought this one was corny, but my kids loved it.

Sierrasmommy- I would definately suggest eating at Avalon Cove @ California Adventures. It's open for lunch & dinner. This is sit-down character dining & the prices are reasonable for theme park dining. It's decorated in ocean decore and sailor Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale are there, along with the Little Mermaid who stays at entrance (the bottom of the stairs). Every half hour or so the characters lead a conga line & the kids get insurments shaped as shells. Your daughter will love it!!

She'll also like the new Bugs Land. I've heard alot of adults complaining how boring it is, but it's for the kids!! It's themed VERY well & I think it's adorable.

In Disneyland, of course Fantasyland is a must, but I also suggest taking her to the Haunted Mansion done up as NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. They transform it from Oct thru the beginning of Jan. My kids & I love this one!! It's super cute & not half as scary as the original Haunted Mansion.

My kids & I go to Disneyland at least once a week, so if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

 ,
Katherine

(First Disney World trip Dec. 6th-14th at AKL, super excited :D :D :D :D )

Thanks for all the great information. We are sooo excited about this trip! I may have been to Disneyland easily hundreds of times-all before 1990, but to see it through the eyes of my daughter will be a whole new adventure. Even without all the changes.
