My husbands company attended a convention there recently. The "gay days" at WDW are just like any other convention. It would not be fair if Disney did not allow this particular event to occur when they let everyone else attend freely.
It would be in fact illegal for Disney to not allow this event to occur, as that would be discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

But you're 100% right, Disney does not sponsor these events or promote these events, they just don't have any basis for stopping them.

Public displays of affection can be inappropriate no matter what the sexual orientation of the participants, are, however, and I hope that Disney employees are trained on where to draw the line. It's not illegal to kiss, hold hands, or dance, and so visitors on these days may see this. The totally inappropriate actions that others may have read about are totally isolated, however, and isn't the norm. (I wouldn't have my kids in front of a Pleasure Island stage at night on any day of the year) Lets not forget the two teenagers who take it a bit too far on the HM (or wherever)...that happens ALL the time.

Very well-said. And Pleasure Island, to reply to an earlier poster, is for adults, and I'm used to seeing fairly risqué entertainment there (back in the mid-1990s, the nightly New Year's Eve show surprised me with the gyrations of the dancers, both male and female; things would start with the frumpy Pomelia Perkins from the Adventurers' Club cranking up an old Victrola to play Auld Lang Syne, and then a female character ("My name is Spirit! Spirit of Change! And I'm here to rearrange your attitude!") would come out and dance, and introduce her brother ("And here comes my brother, The Winds of Change!" as Carmina Burana played in the background), and various male and female dancers would appear on stage and gyrate with each other (as a song with the lyrics, "Out with the old, in with the new / Pleasures untold are waiting for you / You've got your chance, it's long overdue / Out with the old, in with the new..." no less, for those who want to find an even more scurrilous subtext here) -- and, interestingly, would change partners so that during the performance, in the mid-1990s and not on Gay Day at all, they would be dancing somewhat suggestively with people of the same sex, which startled me at the time. And this was the normal default mode for the nightly Pleasure Island event on the West End Stage. Please note that this is not, by the by, a criticism -- just evidence that PI is not, and has never been, aimed at children, during gay days or not.

The humor in the (PI) Comedy Club and even the Adventurers' Club is also fairly adult. (Well, okay, some of it could be considered immature, but it's fairly naughty, at least for Disney (not, of course, for HBO or Showtime). So much so in fact that I don't think I'll quote the more risqué bit that the masks in the Mask Room do involving a certain female Russian monarch, but those who've seen the act will know to what I refer...)

Not to mention that people not only drink, they drink quite a lot at PI -- and, again, always have. It's a nightclub area, for goodness' sake, so I expect different things than at, say, the Magic Kingdom. And I like both.

will miss the Jazz Club, though

I don't care wheater PI is for kids or not. And I'm not talking about suggestive dancing. The edited footage shown was border-line x-rated. If gays want to attend en mass at WDW, fine, but as Mickey put it...

Whether it is Disney sanctioned or not, what other occurance at WDW requires such a warning?

I have to honestly ask, can you give any evidence for this? I dug around on the net for information on this, as it sounds very odd to me, and the closest I found was a reference to a video Bill O'Reilly showed excerpts from called "Gay Days at Disney Gone Wild," and if it's that video, then according to the Advocate, Doug Swallow, the founder of Gay Day at Walt Disney World, has said much of the video is either misrepresentative or downright bogus. "The parts I've seen of the video just don't jibe with what they're claiming they are," he said.

This is SO true. I'm the most liberal person in the world, but my daughter and I actually left the line at Splash Mountain last year, rather than witness the antics of a couple of teenagers (definitely heterosexual) in front of us.

That warning was a personal opinion...I think the PARKS will be fine....as I said I'd never take my kids into a nightclub situation no matter whether it's gay days or not. I'm sure you'd see just as suggestive dancing, or x-rated gyrations, or whatever anyone wants to call it, from the STRAIGHT people there on any other given night! Does that make the news? Probably not.

Yes, it is, but the topic is important.

As for no other event requiring such a warning, none do. Neither does this one.

I'm just surprised it's been allowed to continue this long. I started a thread on Gay Days several months ago because I wanted to know how crowded it got, and my thread was deleted in a matter of hours because the moderators were concerned (and rightly so) about people getting fired up and feelings getting hurt, etc.

I have followed this thread since it was brought back up this weekend and hoped it would drop and not turn in to a debate. We have all had a chance to voice concerns and opinions and I think it's time for us to move on and let this 2-3 year old thread drop.

Re: June Gay Days

I don't think the topic is important on THIS forum. It has little to do with Disney. The crowd levels are a legit question. This thread no longer has ANYTHING to do with crowd levels.

Dana tried to get everyone to hush on the second page.

This is not the forum nor the thread to discuss gay rights and how to talk to our children about such matters. It's not right.

Re: June Gay Days

All I did was mention the crowd levels and post who was where and in what park. I believe that is important information especially for those of us who will be there during that time. Like me.
