How to display your pins?

I'm in need of some help...
My 5 year old son has a very nice pin collection, however it has outgrown his lanyard. I know about the pin trading books, but I was wondering if any of you all have ideas on how "to wear" your pins around the parks. Do you know if WDW has vests or hats that you can buy to display pins. Any ideas/suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Re: How to display your pins?

My guys used simple bucket hats, protects the ears and lots of room for pins. It was amazing to see how often they needed to rearrange the pins to show them off to their best advantage. They were 14 & still not too cool for mickey...

It may sound dumb, but what is a bucket hat?

A bucket hat is what Gilligan wore on Gilligan's Island.

And the disney store had a pin backback some time ago...I use this personally. But they do sell hats and vests at the larger pin stations.

Re: How to display your pins?

My mom and I carry small over the shoulder bags that hold our camera's etc during the day. We put our pins on these. I was lucky enough in 2001 to get my hands on the American Mickey Mouse Head Pin so I have that one along with my Canadian Mouse head pin proudly displayed on my bag, along with pins from each of the parks and my resort.

Re: How to display your pins?

I used to keep pins on my fanny pack, but you have to use the good backs or they get lost easily.

Re: How to display your pins?

Be careful when wearing on a vest, you may discover pins missing. I collect Little League pins and wore them on a vest. But I found that the pin backs often came lose, my guess from the movement of wearing, and lost pins. And don't forget a hat full of pins can get heavy!

Re: How to display your pins?

My friend has a large pin book that looks and carries just like a purse or over shoulder bag. It has quite a few pages to display her pins and also has pockets to hold her extra pins. It weighs a ton because she has many many pins in it. She is rather obsessed. I believe she got it at WDW.

Re: How to display your pins?

I have one large pin trading book that I got at PinTraders at DTD. I also have some filler pages to add to it as well as a smaller bag-like holder. The smaller is for storing pins that I don't want to trade at pin trading events. That way I bring my book and don't have to worry about losing pins I want to keep!

Re: How to display your pins?

I have several Disney Pin books sorted by park and events that I keep for my special pins. I also have a portable pin bag (got from DTD) that I carry with me for trading. I also use a hat while in the parks...easier for people who are lookking for trades. I have found that pins fall off the lanyards and vests quite easily and it is terrible to lose a pin that you have found after a long hunt!

Re: How to display your pins?

Another thing I do when I'm at the parks is to bring all my pins, but only put a certain number of them on my lanyard (which is how I display them in the parks). I usually find a secure place (in a pocket or shopping bag) to put those long-sought after pins since those are usually ones that I don't trade. Anything I'm not willing to trade doesn't go on the lanyard.
