MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

I am going to the Oct. 2 MNSSHP and can't decide if I (40 years-old) should wear a costume or not?? Do many adults wear costumes at this event?? If I do I am thinking of purchasing the Minnie Mouse costume from the Disney Catalog I recieved today.

What are your thoughts????

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

I have been to MNSSHP twice and I have seen alot of adults dressed up. Some are quite elaborate. I personally have never dressed up in costume. Neither has any of my family. It does look like fun it you dress up. But remember if you want to ride the rides don't have a costume that is going to be a hinderance. You definately will not be out of place if you dress up - no matter what your age. We are going again this year and I don't think I am dressing up, but our kids are. It is alot of fun - make sure you get to see the Headless Horseman. He is so cool.

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

Not everyone wears a costume, but plenty of people do. You wouldn't be out of place in a costume, surely. I'd say that the times I've been to MNSSHP (3 times total) about 30-40% of the adults were wearing costumes. Most of the kids had costumes, too. We wore costumes the first time we went, but decided against it the second two times (not for any particular reason, just decided we didn't want the hassle).

Bottom line is, if you want to be Minnie Mouse, be Minnie Mouse! It's WDW after all, and if you can't be a kid there, where can you be? Besides, Minnie will be dressed as a witch or a princess that night (depending on where you see her), so you won't have the dreaded "same outfit" fiasco that happens at so many special events... ;)

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

Kari and I are having a hard time deciding what we want to go as. I think she should go as one of the army men from Toy Story. I remember a couple years ago when she still had her hair dyed green, the guys came over to play a little game in the parking lot, while we were waiting for the tram. And one guy pulled her out to show the other guys her green hair.
I miss the green hair, and she does too, but Home Depot won't allow it.

We are going in themed t-shirts, so we will 'dressed up' - but, not uncomfortable, which would be my primary concern!

So, I guess my advice is - be sure you are comfortable!

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

When we go in Oct DD is going to dress up as Lilo (she's 5 yrs old) so DH and I will dress up in Hawaiian outfits (Floral dress, lei for me and Hawaiian shirt and lei for DH) This way we can be "in costume" without actually getting a costume and it won't be cumbersome!! Although DD wants DH to dress up like Stitch and paint himself blue!!

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

Thanks everyone!! Comfort is important, especailly at WDW with all the walking involved, so maybe I'll do a variation of a costume. I'll have to think on this a bit longer.
Please, keep the thoughts coming I love hearing them.

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

Just to give you a few costume ideas, my friend and I went as a pirate and a farmer when we dressed up. For the farmer costume, I just wore a white t-shirt, a pair of big overalls, a bandanna around my neck, and pigtails in my hair. I also put put big freckles on my face with an eyebrow pencil.

For the pirate costume, my friend cut the legs off an old pair of pants so that the bottoms were ragged and wore an old vest over a plain shirt. She put one hoop earing in one ear and tied a bandanna on her head sideways.

They were easy costumes and very comfortable. Another comfy costume is a "doctor" costume--just get yourself a pair of scrubs from a uniform store.

What a cool idea! We are going to be 12 of us on the 11th of October at the MNSSHP. I will have to bring this idea up to the crew!

I totally agree - comfort is #1!

Erin, have you found t-shirts yet? I have only found Disney Halloween t-shirts one place so far and that is at Zazzle.com - Disney Inkshop. You can choose from several different graphics, have your name the year or a saying put on them. I believe we are going to have ours made there.

Erin is 100% correct!

We do something very similar. Like make up our own t-shirts and a few extra things that we make up and don't mind throwing out in the middle of the night. For example, one year we were all Snow White and the 7 Dwarves. I had a T-shirt that we wrote Dopey across and a hat made of felt. Later in the night, we threw out the hats so we were comfortable.

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

I went last year and dressed as a Mouseketeer. It was fun to be "in costume"! As others have said, be sure your costume is comfortable, and keep in mind that it is still very warm in Orlando in early Oct, so dress for the weather as well.

Yes, we've got our own logo (thanks to JediJson from this site) and a local t-shirt store is putting them on red t-shirts.

Since there are 5 of us, we're going as the Incredible Swigers, complete with The Incredibles Logo. Our names will be on the back. Very cute. We'll wear black shorts/jeans with them.

Re: MNSSHP - Costume or Not???

Erin, you guys are going to look so cute!!!

If I were going to MNSSHP, I would definitely dress up. I still dress up for Halloween at home, because it's so fun! It's the one day of the year when you can really "play" someone else without getting weird looks.

It's tough to say what I would wear to MNSSHP, though, taking into account the warm weather and trying to go on rides. Something simple...I like the pirate idea! One of my absolute favorite Halloween costumes (which I've worn too many times) is Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. If I could find some flat shoes to turn into ruby slippers, I might consider that. But no way am I walking around the MK in heels!!

Princess D, I say go for it! Dressing up will just add to the fun and excitement, no matter what age you are!
